Starting with the 2012 Chevy Sonic, all Chevrolet vehicles sold in the U.S. will come with new window stickers designed to inform consumers about the products’ key environmental benefits. The “EcoLogic” labels will debut on the Sonic in March, then spread to the rest of the brand’s 2013 model-year lineup.

“Customers want companies to be honest and transparent about their environmental efforts and sustainability goals, and rightly so,” said General Motors North America President Mark Reuss. “Putting an Ecologic label on each Chevrolet is just one more way for us to share our environmental progress.”

Each sticker will be located on the rear driver’s side window and include information about three specific stages in each vehicle’s lifecycle:

§  Manufacturing and assembly—Highlighting Chevy’s commitment to reducing waste and emissions created during the actual production process.

§  The ownership experience—Focusing on technologies and features that improve fuel-efficiency.

§  Post-ownership recycling—Illustrating how 85 percent of every Chevy, by weight, can be recycled after its time on the road.

And keep in mind, the information on the EcoLogic labels isn’t just marketing fluff. Every claim will be checked by Two Tomorrows, an independent and internationally recognized third-party sustainability agency.

“Chevrolet’s goal to invest millions in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other lower-carbon projects to reduce U.S. emissions by up to 8 million metric tons demonstrates innovative corporate leadership,” said Eileen Claussen, president of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES). “With this new labeling program, Chevrolet not only gives easy access to information customers want, it again shows its commitment to the environment.”

Graff Bay City and SVSU Cardinals Team Up For Community Youth Sports Clinics

Thanks SVSU for making these clinics possible!

BAY CITY, Mich. Feb. 17, 2012 - Graff Chevrolet Bay City as part of our way to be involved and give back to the community has teamed up with Cardinal’s athletics at Saginaw Valley State University to put on Community Youth Sports Clinics.

This event is an excellent way for kids grades K-8 to get some excellent instruction and guidance. Coaches and athletes from SVSU will be present to help improve their game and team building skills. The fun filled afternoon doesn’t end when the instructional clinic is over. The kids are all invited to watch the SVSU athletic event going on that afternoon for FREE! In addition, the kids are given a coupon good for free concessions as well as a free t-shirt. Parents, bring the t-shirt into the Graff Chevrolet Service Center  and receive a FREE oil change.

How to Keep Your Vehicle In Shape When the Roads Are Rough

These can be your car's worst enemy while driving

BAY CITY, Mich., Feb. 15, 2012 – While on our daily commute, most of us encounter at least one nasty pothole, especially those who have to drive down Ridge Road, Johnson Street, and Trumbull Avenue. Aside from the initial jolt from hitting a pothole or the rumbling of driving over a “washboard” patch, the damage to your vehicle can really add up if you don’t properly maintain it. Potholes can even be deadly for motorcyclist and drivers traveling at excessive speeds. At Graff Chevrolet Bay City we want to give you some advice for handling potholes and what you can do for you vehicle after hitting them to keep your vehicle in safe driving conditions.

The first question we often hear is “What is the best way to deal with a pothole?” The answer is to avoid it completely. If you know there’s a big pothole on your daily commute, try finding an alternative route. We know that is easier said than done, but it is the only way to guarantee your vehicle be free of damage. If you have to drive over a pothole, the best way to go about it is to accelerate over it so the weight of the car is shifted to the rear. By hitting the breaks the entire weight of the car is shifted to the front and can result in more damage. Don’t get us wrong… We aren’t condoning speeding, but physics play a major role in your vehicle condition. By accelerating instead of breaking, you greatly reduce the chance of the damage being catastrophic. 

OK this might be a little exaggerated but there are some pretty nasty potholes around the Bay Area

 Another safety tip to keep your vehicle in shape on rough roads is to be aware of pooled water on the road. Not only can pooled water cause a potential hydroplaning situation, but they also can conceal large and dangerous potholes.

Hitting potholes can potentially pop one of your tires and can also affect your vehicles alignment over time. Each time you run over a pothole in your vehicle, the wheels become less aligned. This can cause uneven wear on your tires and cost you extra money in tire replacements and repairs.
