Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R Makes Racing Debut
BAY CITY, Mich.- A new chapter begins in racing this week as the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R makes its racing debut at the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge in Daytona! Sharing many similar elements with the 2014 Camaro Z/28, the new Z/28.R will be one of the most production based competitors on the track!
This Friday, the Camaro Z/28 will return to its roots as the new Z/28.R debuts in a 2.5-hour endurance race to kick off the 12-race 2014 season. Staying true to their racing roots, the 2014 Camaro Z/28 and Z/28.R were developed alongside eachother, incorporating many of the same performance elements. This resulted in the 2014 Camaro Z/28 being the most track-capable Camaro ever, and the Z/28.R being the closest to a production-spec race car that you will find! Aside from series-mandated equipment needed for endurance racing, the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R makes its racing debut with most of the same specifications as the Z/28, like the same downforce-generating aero package and LS7 7.0L V8 engine.
Through hard-fought victories, the original Camaro Z/28 became an iconic performance car, and the production of the Z/28.R stays true to its roots as the new model heads out to kick off a new chapter in racing! he Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will pace the Indy 500 with three-time winner Dario Franchitti behind the wheel! Not only does the Camaro pace car carry on Chevy's longstanding history with the Indianapolis Motor Speeday but it also signifies Franchitti's Chevrolet-powered driver development role with Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2014 IndyCar season.
