Automobile of the Year: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Automobile of the Year: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
BAY CITY, Mich.- Since the 2014 Corvette Stingray made its debut, it has received many awards for its improvements and capabilities, but now it has received the best one of all! Over the weekend, Automobile Magazine named the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 'Automobile of the Year'!

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray earned the Automobile of the Year title with all of the upgrades it features compared to the previous model. The current generation Corvette offers more power and better fuel economy than the previous model as a result of the new 6.2-liter V8 engine that can produce 460 horsepower and also achieve 29 miles per gallon on the highway!

However, the new engine isn't the only reason that the Stingray earned its latest title. The new Corvette Stingray is also impressive in design, performance, quality, and comfort, offering a tremendous performance value in an all-American package. Along with a major interior facelift that was overdue, the Stingray seems to be more user friendly than previous models.

Chevy Corvette Celebrates 60 Years

Chevy Corvette Celebrates 60 Years
BAY CITY, Mich. - The Chevy Corvette has just celebrated 60 years of being in production, as June 30 marked their 60th anniversary.  Called "the world's longest-running, continuously produced passenger car", the Chevy Corvette has a long history of style and speed. As the Chevy Corvette celebrates 60 years, it's worthwhile to look back at the first vehicle ever put into production.

In 1953, the first Chevy Corvette rolled off the production line in Flint, MI. It was a great vehicle, but nothing compared to the Corvette today. The first corvette's output was 150 horsepower and was only able to go from 0-60 in 11.5 seconds. It was made out of fiberglass as opposed to steel, and was a beauty to look at. However, the next Corvettes to roll off the line were a big improvement. The 1955 model improved it's 0-60 time, getting the vehicle up to speed in 8.5 seconds.

The Corvette quickly evolved after the first few years, as it changed its 'face' in 1956, introduced the Stingray in 1963, and finally completely redesigned the vehicle in 1984. The 1984 model had a "Crossfire" V8 engine, an electronic dashboard, 205 horsepower and could go 0-60 in 7 seconds.

Currently we are in the sixth generation of Chevy Corvettes, with the seventh generation due out later this year. The 7th generation Corvette will bring back the Stingray name, and is the most powerful standard model to date. It will feature a LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine that will output 455 hp and 460 lb.-ft of torque, and is expected to go from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds! That's quite a difference from the 11.5 seconds of the original model!

BAY CITY, Mich.- The convertible model of the C7 Corvette isn't set to officially debut until tomorrow, March 5th, at the Geneva Auto Show. However, Chevy gave us a little pre-reveal sneak peek with these 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Photos! And know we're even more excited for the reveal to discover all of the official details.

These pre-reveal Stingray Convertible images give us a better look at the Corvette's tail and show a few notable changes. Obviously, the rear end of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible closely resembles that of the 2014 Coupe. However, we noticed a few details that changed as a part of the transformation into a convertible. To create a shoulder that surrounds the tonneau cover, the lower edges of the side windows extend to the tail of the car. Also, the rear fender vents present on the 2014 Corvette Coupe apear to be moved on the Stingray Convertible. In addition, with the top up, the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible appears to have a glass rear window.
