Halloween Safety Tips for a Scare-Free Night

Halloween Safety Tips

BAY CITY, Mich. – We’re excited for the big night to finally come! We’ve gone to the orchards, carved our pumpkins, and prepared our costumes. With only TWO days until Halloween, how could we not be excited? But with all the little witches and warlocks running around, it’s important we remind our kids to be safe. Here are some Halloween Safety Tips that you should go over before going trick-or-treating.

Halloween Safety Tips

  1. Always have an adult with you. Kids under the age of 12 should have adult supervision no matter where they are trick or treating. If your kids are old enough to go on their own, make sure they stay with a group still.
  2. Trick or treat in areas that are familiar to you and well lit. It’s going to be dark and you don’t want to get lost somewhere you don’t know. Most of the time if the porch light to the house isn’t on, they’re not passing out candy.
  3. Always use sidewalks and crosswalks. Make sure you’re kids aren’t running in the road. Teach them to make eye contact with drivers before crossing so they are aware of each other.
  4. Wear glow sticks and reflective tape. Glow stick necklaces are available anywhere that sells Halloween costumes. This makes your child easier to see by you and drivers. Reflective tape can easily be put on candy buckets and bags too.
  5. Always examine candy before your kid eats it. Make sure it doesn’t look tampered with in any way. Every piece should be factory wrapped and homemade treats should be avoided.
  6. Never enter a house unless you know the person or you’re with a trusted adult. Also, never accept a ride from a stranger or go to their vehicle.
  7. Wear costumes that fit properly. This includes masks, shoes, and any other accessories that come with the outfit. This could be a tripping hazard. Also, if a mask it too big it could be hard for your child to see where they’re going.
With these safety tips you and your kids will have a hauntingly good Halloween this year! Winter is around the corner so you should make sure your vehicle is up-to-date with its maintenance. Come into our service center near Saginaw for an oil change or new winter tires.
