GM Launches a Car-Sharing Service Called Maven

BAY CITY, Mich. – GM launched a new car-sharing service called Maven in Ann Arbor, through which vehicles can be rented by the hour or the day.

The first group of people that will be able to use Maven are those from the University of Michigan, where it’s available to select faculty and students. However, in the next few weeks Maven will be made available to more than 100,000 people in Ann Arbor, with more cities to follow.

GM’s Car Sharing Service, Maven, will be used through a phone app that can be used to locate, reserve, and unlock the vehicle. Depending on the features of the car, you can also start and heat your vehicle with the app.

Why use Maven? Well, for a number of reasons:

• Free to join (limited time offer)
• No fuel costs
• Cars with tons of features and amenities
• Latest technologies
• Hourly and daily rates
• Insurance included
• Safe and reliable

For vehicle options range from small sedans like the Chevy Volt or Spark, to the midsize-sedan Chevy Malibu, and the Chevy Tahoe as a larger SUV option. Each vehicle is priced according to size, and car-sharing costs $6–12 for hourly payments, or $42–84 for daily fees.

The All-New 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid LT

Updated 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Coming This Fall

BAY CITY, Mich. – Chevrolet's efforts to update and refresh their lineup have definitely been paying off, and part of that can be attributed to the solid positioning of the Impala. However, when it comes to the mid-size Malibu, the current generation model has seen an increase in competition. So what does Chevy do? Make it better! An updated 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is coming this Fall and recently Mark Reuss hinted at what we can expect when it debuts!

This Fall the updated 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is expected to begin arriving on dealership lots and according to Mark Reuss, GM's executive vice president of global product development, the new model's styling will blow you away! Just how the redesigned Impala exceeds expectations, the 2016 Malibu is set to do the same; delivering more than you'd expect to get at that price.

But what type of styling can we expect? Well, you may remember a while back we reported that Chevrolet was going to start incorporating Corvette Stingray influences into all of it's models, and that was hinted at that once again. Apparently, the next-gen Malibu taillights will incorporate a hint of Stingray, while rear leg room will be increased, and front-seat hip room will become more accommodating.

Chevrolet to Debut Performance-Oriented Concepts at SEMA 2013

BAY CITY, Mich.- The world's largest convention of automotive aftermarket parts and accessories , SEMA, is coming up on November 5th-8th and automakers are preparing to show off their most impressive vehicles. At a preview late last week, it was announced that Chevrolet will debut performance-oriented concepts at SEMA 2013! Some of the brand's most popular passenger cars will get an aftermarket makeover, including the Impala, Sonic, and Spark EV.

Next week in Las Vegas, Chevrolet will debut performance-oriented concepts at SEMA 2013, showcasing a variety of cosmetic and performance upgrades. Most recently, the upated Impala made its dealership debut, and an Urban Cool Impala Concept will make an appearance at the show. The urban concept will feature a unique interior trim and leather with 20-inch painted wheels and ground effects on the exterior.

Another recently redesigned Chevy vehicle, the Malibu LTZ, will also receive custom looks and increased power for the upcoming show. The Malibu gets a sporty kick from a Borla exhaust system and a boost of power from cold-air induction, while being complimented by new ground effects and 19-inch sterling silver finish wheels with matching paint.

Three Chevy Sonic concepts will also be showcased at SEMA 2013. The Chevrolet Performance Sonic RS concept features engine, suspension, and brake upgrades like cold-air induction and high-flow exhaust, along with appearance upgrades that draw on the legacy of Chevy's high-performance vehicles. The Ricky Carmichael All-Activity Sonic concept adds an all-new performance package that includes a 1.4L Turbo Stage Kit with high-flow exhaust. The personalization Sonic concept will also appear at the show, placing a a larger emphasis on personalization and a fun take on the Sonic with a chrome stripe and exterior graphics.

Chevrolet's Spark EV Tech Performance concept is making a big splash at SEMA 2013, by offering more torque than a 1969 Camaro SS! The typically economical electric vehicle is transformed into a battery-powered drag racer while also featuring a custom exterior color and a backlit version of the bowtie badge.

Last but not least, the Personalization Cruze Diesel concept will also make its debut, showing off a fresh athletic look with an updated front fascia and chin spoiler. Along with impressive power, the Cruze Diesel concept also boasts 46 mpg hwy, with the ability to travel 717 miles on a single tank!

Vehicle Electrification Options for Every Consumer

BAY CITY, Mich. - GM has vehicle electrification options for every customer, allowing you to pick the option that will work best with your lifestyle and driving habits. There are three electric-based options: eAssist, Extended Range electric vehicles and electric vehicles - all of which have characteristics designed to appeal to different drivers.

The eAssist is available on the Chevy Malibu and 2014 Chevy Impala and is ideal for drivers that want a large sedan with compact fuel economy. A small compact car isn't for everyone, especially those that have families or prefer the extra space - that's why this electric vehicle is a great option if you fall into either of those categories. The eAssist gives the driver 25% fuel economy improvement over a traditional vehicle. This vehicle electrification option is also known as the 'light electrification solution' because it is only a small electric motor and a lithium ion battery attached to the engine - this allows the engine to turn off when the vehicle is idle which saves fuel.

The Extended Range electric vehicle (EREV) is powered by both electricity and gas. It does this by using electric for a certain number of miles, then when the battery runs low, it uses an electric generator powered by a gas engine. This option is available on cars such as the Chevy Volt and is perfect for those that prefer to use vehicle electrification on your daily commute, but also want the option to travel longer distances. The EREV gets an average of 900 miles to a tank, saving you about $6,850 over five years.

Pure electric vehicles is the third vehicle electrification option that GM offers. This is available on the Chevy Spark EV and is perfect for drivers that live in urban or suburban communities. It runs purely on electricity and can save the driver on average about $9,000 on gas over five years.

Chevy's 3-D Prototype Process Makes Development of New Vehicles Easy

BAY CITY, Mich. - Chevrolet is using a new process to update and design new models, which involves lasers, specialized software, and stereo lithography. Chevy's new 3-D prototype process makes development of new vehicles easy.

The automaker used to use a clay sculpting process to develop new vehicles, which could take any where from weeks to months. But the new 3-D design process can be accomplished in just a matter of days. 3-D prototype processing, also known as Stereolithography, uses lasers to quickly build one-third scale and full-size test models, allowing designers and engineers to have a prototype that they can work with in person. Plus it also saves the company hundreds of thousands of dollars since the new 3-D prototype process makes developing new vehicles quick and easy.

This new 3-D prototype process was used to design Chevy's 2014 Malibu. It allowed designers to improve and expand knee room for rear passengers, and also elongate the center console. Finding it to be extremely useful, Chevrolet is looking to use the 3-D prototype process with future models as well.

So what are the pros and cons of using stereolithography? The number one advantage appears to be speed. Being able to quickly develop prototypes allows Chevrolet to adjust and redesign at a rapid pace, sometimes printing a piece within a day. One disadvantage is the price, since 3-D processing can be expensive. However, it is saving Chevy a great deal of money since clay modeling could be equally, if not more, expensive. Not to mention, the more popular that 3-D prototype processing becomes, cheaper options will be made available.

2013 Chevrolet Malibu Passive Vehicle Entry

BAY CITY, Mich.- With the advanced vehicle technology available today, convenience is at our fingertips and our vehicles are making life a little bit easier. We've all had that moment when our arms are full, and searching for keys in the bottom of a purse or trying to get them out of our pocket becomes the most difficult task. But with the 2013 Chevy Malibu's Four-Door Passive Vehicle Entry, you no longer have to search for your keys to open the car door!

Available on the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ, the four-door passive vehicle entry technology places small buttons on each door and allows the driver to unlock the door with one press of the button, or open all four doors and the trunk with two presses. How does it work? The vehicle verifies that the proper key fob is within the acceptable 3-foot range using the Malibu's closed-loop wireless communication system to allow the driver to unlock the door with the touch of a button. Since each vehicle has a unique key fob, there is virtually zero chance of a false unlock.

Chevy considered developing the feature so it would automatically unlock the door upon approaching the vehicle, but ultimately decided that the push-button option offered better functionality, keeping the driver in full control of the vehicle.
