2016 COPO Camaro Will Be Acutioned to Benefit United Way

BAY CITY, Mich. – Chevrolet is giving back in a big way this week! The 2016 COPO Camaro will be auctioned to benefit United Way. Every penny made from the auction will go towards United Way.

If you’re not sure what the COPO Camaro is, think power and performance. The Camaro is designed to race in the NHRA Stock Eliminator class. These COPO Camaros are special because each is built by hand starting with the production hardware. The COPO Camaro get its name from the Central Office Production Order system used in the 1960's for fleet managers to order special or unusual combinations of parts. Dealers often use this system to pack high performance powertrains into production Camaros.

The 2016 COPO Camaro is actually a sixth-generation legacy that was introduced at the SEMA show last November. The car has a look that was created by Chevrolet and NHRA Funny Car driver, Courtney Force. The Camaro stands out with a red hot exterior, Courtney Force signature graphics, and a red-accented grille trim.

Courtney Force is very excited about this car saying, “I was extremely honored to work with Chevrolet and help design the 2016 COPO Camaro. The bright red color and the signature slash marks towards the back on the car bring a part of my Traxxas Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car to the COPO Camaro, which I think is really cool. The proceeds from this car go to a great cause and benefit the United Way, so it's an awesome project all around." 

The carbon fiber high-ride hood hides a 350 racing engine with a Whipple 2.9L supercharger. Inside the cabin is a chrome-moly roll cage, lightweight bucket seats personalized with the COPO logo and Courtney Force’s signature, a five-point safety harnesses, and a floor-mounted shifter for the THM-350 automatic transmission.

2014 Chevrolet COPO Camaro Program Announced

BAY CITY, Mich.- Last week, Chevy debuted an array of passenger cars turned high-performance concept cars at SEMA 2013, but the automaker really impressed show-goers and Camaro fans all over when they announced the 2014 Chevrolet COPO Camaro Program! In 2014, the COPO Camaro Program will return with limited production of factory-produced race cars for the third year!

Chevrolet announced the 2014 COPO Camaro Program models will feature the same updated styling features as the newest Camaro, including new front and rear fascias. New to the COPO Camaro Program this year will be the two new racing engine choices which make the cars more competitive. The 2014 race cars will also feature new racing seats, updated graphics, and a new wheel design. While looks impress, safety is the most important so each car will be fitted with an NHRA-approved roll cage along with other safety equipment. But most notably, each of the 2014 COPO Camaros will be built by hand!

As in the previous COPO Camaro Programs, only a limited number of the high-performance race cars will be produced for 2014. Specifically, only 69 2014 COPO Camaros will be built for NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock competition. For those interested in serial number 1 of the limited 2014 run, it's going to cost you a little bit more! But it's all for a good cause. Serial number 1 of the 2014 COPO Camaro run is set to be auctioned off by Chevrolet Performance at the Barrett-Jackson annual January event. All of the proceeds from the sale of the first 2014 COPO Camaro will benefit the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans!
