The All-New 2019 Chevrolet Volt Exudes "Shock-Value"

The All-New 2019 Chevrolet Volt Exudes "Shock-Value"

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Drivers are about to get more out of the new 2019 Chevy Volt, which cuts charging times in half and adds twice the all-electric driving range per hour of charge. The new 7.2 kW charging system allows for an increase in the all-electric utility, a particularly beneficial feature for drivers who plug in while traveling around town, a practice known as “opportunity charging.”

“With about twice the range added during 240V Level 2 charging sessions, the 2019 Volt’s 7.2 kW system makes opportunity charging more worthwhile,” said Jesse Ortega, chief engineer, Chevrolet Electric Vehicles. “It effectively extends the vehicle’s all-electric driving range, while providing about twice the range for the money when plugging in at public facilities that charge by the hour.”

In as little as 2.3 hours utilizing a 240-volt outlet, a complete recharge can take place with the new 7.2 kW system, which is standard equipment on the 2019 Chevrolet Volt Premier models and available on the LT trim.

Additionally, drivers of the new 2019 Chevrolet Volt will enjoy an EPA-estimated 53 miles of pure EV range and 106mpg (gasoline equivalent) with a full charge and a full tank of gas. Once the battery of the Volt begins to run low, the vehicle's gas-powered generator activates, which then extends the driving range to about 420 miles on a full tank.

While the driving range and charge times are two important factors when it comes to the Chevy Volt, the 2019 Volt also offers a good number of other exciting features. If you are driving in a colder climate, where you wish to use less gas, the 2019 Volt allows you to defer activation of its automatic engine-assisted heating system until much lower temperatures (-13 degrees F/-25 degrees C). It also offers a smoother ride through regenerative braking capability with the Low and Regen on Demand profiles, which therefore allows the vehicle to reach its class-leading EV range. Additionally, the 2019 Volt's in-car tech has been upgraded with the Chevy Infotainment 3 system that incorporates a new Energy App within the 8-inch color touchscreen. Through the app, drivers can ensure they are getting the best performance out of their vehicle by better understanding how their route, driving style, cabin comfort, and weather conditions may be impacting their range via mileage, rather than by numerical "score" as in the past.

Design-wise the 2019 Chevy Volt is bringing both interior and exterior upgrades to the streets. The interior of the vehicle is becoming more digital with front and rear speakers that will alert drivers when operating at slow speeds, a digital rearview camera, a slight horn alert when the full pressure of a tire is achieved, a wireless charging pad that is relocated ahead of the shifter for easier use (available with navigation radio), and new cruise control options where the driver can select Adaptive Cruise Control or conventional cruise control. A first for the Chevy Volt is the introduction of a power driver's seat which will come standard on the Premier model and will be available on the LT models. On the exterior, the 2019 Volt will offer a new Pacific Blue exterior color, as well as a new Jet Black/Porcelain Blue interior on the Premier version. Or, if you're looking for something sleeker, opt for the dealer-installed blackout package for black front/rear bowtie emblems, sports pedals, and 17-inch machined-aluminum wheels with black-painted pockets.

Volt owners have been able to drive over 2.8 billion EV miles, which saves more than 108 million gasoline gallons. Vehicle Electrification Options for Every Consumer

Vehicle Electrification Options for Every Consumer
BAY CITY, Mich. - GM has vehicle electrification options for every customer, allowing you to pick the option that will work best with your lifestyle and driving habits. There are three electric-based options: eAssist, Extended Range electric vehicles and electric vehicles - all of which have characteristics designed to appeal to different drivers.

The eAssist is available on the Chevy Malibu and 2014 Chevy Impala and is ideal for drivers that want a large sedan with compact fuel economy. A small compact car isn't for everyone, especially those that have families or prefer the extra space - that's why this electric vehicle is a great option if you fall into either of those categories. The eAssist gives the driver 25% fuel economy improvement over a traditional vehicle. This vehicle electrification option is also known as the 'light electrification solution' because it is only a small electric motor and a lithium ion battery attached to the engine - this allows the engine to turn off when the vehicle is idle which saves fuel.

Vehicle Electrification Options for Every Consumer The Extended Range electric vehicle (EREV) is powered by both electricity and gas. It does this by using electric for a certain number of miles, then when the battery runs low, it uses an electric generator powered by a gas engine. This option is available on cars such as the Chevy Volt and is perfect for those that prefer to use vehicle electrification on your daily commute, but also want the option to travel longer distances. The EREV gets an average of 900 miles to a tank, saving you about $6,850 over five years.

Pure electric vehicles is the third vehicle electrification option that GM offers. This is available on the Chevy Spark EV and is perfect for drivers that live in urban or suburban communities. It runs purely on electricity and can save the driver on average about $9,000 on gas over five years.

With vehicle electrification for every consumer, no matter their lifestyle or driving habits, every driver has the option to save big on gas. If you'd like to talk about which option is best for you, or even take one of these vehicles for a test drive, stop by our Caro Area Chevrolet Dealer today! Our knowledgeable sales staff would be more than happy to go over all the details with you, or even assist you with Special Financing.

Mr. Chevy Volt to be Inducted into Automotive Hall of Fame

Mr. Chevy Volt to be Inducted into Automotive Hall of Fame
BAY CITY, Mich. - Bob Lutz, AKA Mr. Chevy Volt is to be inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame for his work with electric vehicles. Having been quoted saying that "the electrification of the automobile is inevitable." Lutz is one member of the auto industry that saw Chevy's future involving clean energy.

Mr. Chevy Volt, as he is called, is to be inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame, specifically for his work with the electric vehicle. Back in 2011, Lutz blatantly told the world that electric vehicles were the future, and we would soon see gasoline cars become antiques. While many scoffed at him in 2011, they are certainly taking his words into consideration now.

As of May 2013, electric car sales have increased 130 percent since this time last year. Almost every big automobile manufacturer currently produces at least one electric vehicle, with Chevrolet manufacturing two: the Chevy Volt and the Chevy Spark.

It is with the Chevy Volt that Lutz gained most of his reputation, as he remains the vehicle's biggest contributor. It is believed that without Lutz's support of the electric vehicle the Volt would never have made it from paper to production. It is because of Lutz and his belief in electric vehicles that the Chevy Volt is such a success, with Chevy Volt drivers having logged over 187-million electric miles to date!

With so much to be proud of, we want to congratulate Mr. Lutz! He certainly deserves recognition for his work with the electric vehicle industry.

If you'd like to check out the Chevy Volt for yourself and see what exactly Bob Lutz was raving about,  take a look at our 2013 Chevy Volt Brochure! If you'd like to take it for a test drive, come on in to our Birch Run Chevrolet Dealership Location where we have a large selection of both New Chevrolet Cars and Certified Pre-Owned Cars For Sale.

BAY CITY, Mich.- It's been a long time coming, but the Chevrolet Spark EV which debuted at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show is almost here! As this urban mini car nears is market debut, General Motors has revealed more information on what we can expect when we get behind the wheel. Most recently, the automaker revealed the 2014 Chevy Spark EV's electric range!

Rated at a range of 82 miles by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Spark EV offers a combined 119 MPGe efficiency. Which means miles-per-gallon-equivalent–how far the car can travel electrically on the same amount of battery energy as contained in one gallon of gas, to give consumers an idea of potential savings even though the vehicle doesn't use gasoline. The 2014 Chevy Spark EV's 119 MPGe rating is higher than any other electric car on the market!

Not to mention, the Spark EV also beats out competing electric minicars with its 100-kilowatt (130 HP) electric motor that is built in the United States at GM's Maryland plant. Though small, the thrill of the drive is not sacrificed with this mini car thanks to its 400 lb-ft of torque. The eco-friendly Spark's battery pack also comes with an eight year/100,000 mile warranty.

Priced at $25,000 post-incentives, the 2014 Chevy Spark EV's 82 mile electric range ultimately aims to appeal to urban commuters. General Motors 200 Mile Electric Car Confirmed

General Motors 200 Mile Electric Car Confrimed
BAY CITY, Mich.- Recently General Motors' CEO, Dan Akerson, hinted at developments in the automakers battery technology and the push to develop different ranges. While at an energy conference this week, the CEO confirmed General Motors is in fact working on an electric car with a 200 mile range!

While GM's CEO didn't offer and details regarding the vehicles or batteries in question, the suggested breakthroughs have been on a development project to produce two different vehicles, one with a 100 mile range and the other with a 200 mile range. These efforts are combined with General Motors' goal to have a total of 500,000 electrified vehicles on the road by 2017.

While we don't know much about the Confirmed GM 200 Mile Electric Car, back in 2011 we found out that General Motors' venture capital arm had invested $17 million in Envia Systems, which is developing a lithium-ion battery that would offer 400 watt-hours per kilogram, much higher than the 140 watt-hours per kilogram offered by today's highest-volume electric car.

For more info on Chevrolet's latest electric car technology, check out the 2013 Chevy Volt Brochure. Or if you're interested in one of Chevy's most fuel efficient vehicles, take a look at the 2013 Chevy Spark Brochure.
