Beyond Best Cars: Chevy Gives Journalistic Opportunities to Students

BAY CITY, Mich. – Chevrolet does more than just create the best cars. It also helps to support students who are seeking careers beyond their university studies. Take the story of six students being chosen from historically black colleges and universities by Chevrolet and the National Newspaper Publishers Association for the 2018 Discover the Unexpected Journalism Fellowship. The winners are Tyvan Banks of Norfolk State University, Diamond Durant of Morgan State University, Daja Henry of Howard University, Denver Lark of North Carolina A&T State University, Natrawn Maxwell of Claflin University and Ida Wilborn of Florida A&M University.

The purpose of the 2018 Discover the Unexpected Journalism Fellowship is to help these Fellows offer up powerful stories from various African-American communities throughout the eight weeks of the summer internship. Each Fellow will receive a $10,000 scholarship and a $5,000 stipend from Chevrolet. In previous years, only certain schools were chosen but during the 2018 year, all schools were included.

"In 2016 Chevrolet launched the DTU fellowship at Howard University and last year added Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College," US Chevrolet Marketing Vice President Paul Edwards said. "This year we want to give every HBCU student with a strong voice the opportunity to report the inspiring stories from around the U.S. as they Find New Roads behind the wheel of the 2018 Equinox."

The Fellows will start with two days of journalism training with Chevrolet and NNPA leadership at General Motors' Global Headquarters before going to start work. They will work at The Washington Informer in Washington, D.C.; The Atlanta Voice in Atlanta, Georgia; The New Journal & Guide in Norfolk, Virginia; and New York Amsterdam News in New York City, New York.

"The NNPA is looking forward to continuing our support of young storytellers to document positive stories in our communities," NNPA President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. stated. "Young journalists have the power to bring about positive change in our communities and this country through their words, so it is vital to include their voices in the conversation."

Along for the journey during the summer, American Hip Hop Artist MC Lyte, who serves as the program's national spokesperson, will talk with the Fellows about creating a unique voice and how to tell a great story. On-Air Correspondent Dana Blair, who is also an entertainment producer and brand ambassador, will serve as a mentor to the Fellows. National Car Care Month: Tire Maintenance Checklist

BAY CITY, Mich. –– April is National Car Care Month and after a long harsh winter, your entire vehicle may be in need of some care and maintenance, but most especially your tires. Now that all the slippery ice and snow have melted, our roads are filled with dangerous potholes that could potentially pop your tires or throw off your wheels' alignment. So, ensure your car is ready to take on Michigan roads this spring season by completing this tire maintenance checklist for National Car Care Month!

1. Perform Routine Tire Rotations

It is recommended that you rotate your vehicle's tires every 3,000-7,000 miles or every other oil change. Tires tend to wear unevenly, which is why it's important to rotate them to ensure they wear more evenly across all four of them. This will produce better handling overall. 2. Check Out Your Tire Tread

Your tire's tread is what allows you to grip the road, serving as a buffer between both surfaces that keeps you safe during various weather patterns. It can also increase your stopping distance, making it more difficult to stop in an emergency situation. 3. Inspect Your Tire Pressure

The air pressure in your tires can become affected from various temperatures. The Tahoe and Suburban Will Join the Chevrolet Special Edition Crew

2015 Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban Z71 Package Revealed

BAY CITY, Mich. – About a month ago, news broke that Chevy may offer a Z71 package for the 2015 Suburban and Tahoe SUVs, however no details about exactly what that package would include were known...until now! At the Texas State Fair, Chevrolet revealed the 2015 Tahoe & Suburban Z71 Package details that will be available this fall!

The Z71 edition is really for those looking for an SUV with off-road performance, enhanced capability, and exclusive technology features. The Z71 package is synonymous with off-road performance so the new Tahoe and Suburban will add off-road tires mounted on 18-inch wheels, a front skid plate, a unique grille and running boards, Z71 branding on the interior and exterior, fog lamps, front tow hooks and front park assist!

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban Z71 package makes the SUVs just as capable on the inside too. In addition to Chevy's already impressive technology suite, the Tahoe and Suburban equipped with the Z71 package will receive OnStar 4G LTE with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless phone charging capability, and hands-free liftgate operation. The wireless charging station allow users to charge their devices simply by placing them on a small mat in the vehicle that is actually a magnetic inductive charging system. And the convenience continues around back where the hands-free liftgate will allow you to open the trunk by simply waving your foot under a sensor located beneath the bumper.

Redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Debut

BAY CITY, Mich.- With the last refresh occurring back in 2007, the longest running nameplate in the automotive industry is getting a much needed facelift! In their 12th and 5th generations respectively, the redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe debuted recently revealing updates both inside and out. The redesigned 2015 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban received similar updates, with the major difference between the two being the Suburban's longer length.

At nearly 80 continuous years, the Chevy Suburban is the longest running nameplate in the auto industry and though the recent updates are subtle, they are significant to the SUV's evolution. The Tahoe may be a few years younger, but remains just as popular as its larger counterpart with similar styling/ In an effort to convey a more "sporty" look, every single body panel on the 2015 Chevy SUV's have been redesigned along with obviously different front ends and headlights. Specifically the doors and side glass have been reworked to fit into the bodyside, rather than wrapping up into the roof, with a smoother overall look down the sides that creates a more squared-off look which actually improves interior space.

The redesigned Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe are both powered by General Motor's Ecotec3 5.3-liter V8 engine, boating 355 horsepower with 383 lb.-ft of torque. While mileage for the 2015 Tahoe/Suburban has not yet been released, improved fuel economy is expected thanks to the engine's cylinder deactivation. And for those who have towing needs, the SUV's are just as capable. The 2015 Chevy Tahoe has been rated with a towing capacity of 8,500 pounds for two-wheel-drive models and 8,300 pounds for four-wheel-drive versions. The lengthier 2015 Suburban has been rated with a towing capacity of 8,300 pounds for two-wheel-drive models and 8,000 pounds for four-wheel drive versions.

The interior of the redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban has also been updated to match the impressive exterior. Up front, the console has been completely revised with significantly higher-quality materials to feel more "carlike." Plus, the available 8-inch touch-screen with Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system can actually slide up, revealing storage space behind the screen. In the back, second-row passengers will enjoy two more inches of legroom, while the new third-row power fold-flat seat can fold down into the cargo area at the touch of a button. If you need even more space, another switch can fold down the second-row too, creating a relatively flat load floor. If you're looking to keep your back seat passengers entertained, you can opt for a Blu-ray player with 9-inch screen, five auxiliary power sockets, 110-volt power outlet and six USB outlets for personal electronics.

As the automaker with the highest safety ratings, the 2015 Chevy Suburban and Tahoe also received new high-tech equipment to keep drivers and passengers safe. New driver assist technologies in the SUV's include forward collision alert, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, a safety alert seat, front and rear park assist, and center side airbags in the front.

2014 Chevy Tahoe Review

BAY CITY, Mich. - The Chevy Tahoe has always been a great option for those that need space - whether it be for passengers, cargo, or just room to breathe, Tahoe has plenty of it. The exterior of the 2014 Chevy Tahoe hasn't changed too much with the new model year, as it still remains sleek, clean, and pleasing to the eye. The 2015 Chevy Tahoe is expected to have a redesigned exterior, but this model is sticking to the tried and true design.

As for the performance of the SUV, it comes with a 5.3-liter V-8 with 320 horsepower, and a six-speed automatic transmission. For a vehicle of this size, the Tahoe does pretty well in terms of gas mileage. Getting up to 21 mpg on the highway, this SUV is a significant improvement over the SUVs of the past. The 2014 model also comes equipped with cylinder deactivation, which shuts off fuel to half of the cylinders when the vehicle is coasting or decelerating, and is E85 compatible.

The 2014 Tahoe has quite a few added features such as a USB port; power-adjustable pedals; remote start; Rear Park Assist and Rear Vision Camera. A blind-spot warning system is also available for the SUV. As for safety features, it's added a few that have earned the vehicle five-star ratings for both frontal and side impact from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. These include dual front, side, and curtain airbags; traction and stability control; and OnStar security services.

SPOTTED: 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe

BAY CITY, Mich. - The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe has been spotted, but not well observed. The vehicle is still being kept under literal wraps, so not much of the Tahoe could be speculated on.  With the launch of the redesigned Tahoe being pushed back until January 2014, we will have to wait a few months to get any real kind of information about the redesigned SUV.

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe was spotted and revealed only a little about what design changes are happening with the Chevy vehicle.  The headlights now appear to have a tiered treatment, with the lights getting progressively bigger near the bottom. The face of the Tahoe also appears to have been reworked a little, as it now slightly resembles the new Chevy Silverado.

As for the 2014 Chevy Tahoe, the 202 in. long SUV seats 8 people with plenty of room to spare. It comes with a 5.3L V8 engine with 320 hp and 335 lb-ft torque. It's a 6-speed automatic that can get up to 21 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg in the city. The Active Fuel Management engine technology, and enhanced safety features make it a popular choice among full-size SUVs. This 2014 version of the SUV will be released by the end of this summer.
