Chevy News: Indianapolis 500 Winner and New Vehicle Packages, Options Announced

BAY CITY, Mich. – Chevy has been in the news a lot recently, as they continue to have a successful 2018. On top of rolling out new information on the 2019 Silverado 1500 and 2019 Suburban, Chevy was proud to have two of their vehicles place 1st and 2nd in the recent Indianapolis 500. Now is an exciting time to be a Chevy driver, so read below for more updates on your favorite Detroit motor-brand!

Chevrolet Finishes in 1st and 2nd Place in the 102 Indianapolis 500

The most exciting Chevrolet news revolves around the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet Driver Will Power. On May 27th, Power claimed victory at the 102 Indianapolis 500 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His Chevy victory news came as he won a 3.1589 victory over Ed Carpenter, a pole sitter.

“I can’t describe it,” Power stated. “I feel like collapsing. I want to cry. I was wondering if I would ever win it and thoughts went through my mind during the month. This was the last box to tick, but I’m done.”

This Chevrolet news of triumph dates back to the days of Rick Mears, who won the pole for Team Penske during 1988. Power is the first Australian to win the Indy 500 and to gain victory on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval and the 2,439-mile, 14-turn road, which uses sections of the 2.5-mile oval to complete the sweep.

2019 Suburban RST Performance Package Announced

While Power’s victory is hitting the top of the Chevy news everywhere, what is just as exciting is the announcement of the new 2019 Suburban RST Performance Package. The new 2019 Suburban RST will sport a 420 hp, 6.2L V-8 engine, a modern Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission, and Magnetic Ride Control with performance calibration.

This marks the first time Suburban will offer the 6.2L V-8, which has 460 lb-ft of torque and 420 horsepower.

“The RST Performance Package made its debut on the Tahoe RST last spring, and the response from our customers was overwhelmingly positive,” Chevy Trucks Marketing and Advertising Director Sandor Piszar stated. “In fact, Tahoe RST with the Performance Package is the fastest-turning Tahoe model, and we’ve received customer requests to offer the same performance and power to Suburban RST.”

Chevy fans will be excited to hear that the Suburban RST performance accessories include a custom tuned Performance Dual-Side Exit exhaust system and an available Performance front brake upgrade package. The Performance Package is available as an upgrade to the Suburban RST, introduced last year.

2019 Silverado 1500 Engine and Transmission Options Announced

The announcement of the engine and transmission options for the 2019 Silverado 1500 could not have come sooner for Chevy lovers. With eight different trim levels as paired with six engine and transmission options, they are seeking to serve three different customers: High Value, High Volume, and High Feature. Options for the engine include the 4.3L V-6, 2.7L Turbo, 5.3L V-8, and the Duramax 3.0L inline-six Turbo Diesel. Silverado 1500 Chief Engineer Tim Asoklis said the performance of the different engines and transmissions will benefit from the truck being lighter.

“With less weight and less wind resistance, we improved the driving dynamics without sacrificing fuel efficiently,” Asoklis said. He said the chassis feels more responsive and acceleration is more pronounced. 10 Tips to Prepare Your Car for Your Summer Road Trip

BAY CITY, Mich. –– Before you head out on a road trip for a fun summer vacation somewhere warm, we highly recommend you inspect your vehicle to see if there is any auto maintenance it needs to be done. Winter and spring can take a pretty serious toll on your vehicle and its internal components, so it's important to have it serviced especially before you subject it to a long drive. There are also other road trip resources to consider bringing as well. So, whether you're heading south with your family or some friends from school, make sure to read up on our 10 tips to prepare your car for your summer road trip!

Get an Oil Change

Getting an oil change before a long road trip is very important. Your motor will be running continually for long stretches of miles (and hours) and if your oil is old it won't do its job effectively, lubricating your engine's internal components and keeping them from warping and doing serious damage.

Create a Roadside Preparedness Kit

To prepare for anything and everything, we recommend creating a roadside preparedness kit. Stock your car with bottled water, road flares, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, blankets, jumper cables, and make sure you have a spare tire and jack just in case.

Get Roadside Assistance

If you don’t have roadside assistance through your insurance, consider getting AAA. That way, if your vehicle breaks down while on your trip, you’ll always have someone ready to come to the rescue!

Bring a Map

While it's easy nowadays to rely on your phone's GPS and navigation systems, you may wind up driving through places with bad cell phone signal. If you take the wrong turn, you could wind up way off track and add more time to your trip. So, bring an old-fashioned paper map to ensure you'll always know how to get where you're going!

Plan For Rest Time & Switch Drivers

Your wiper blades may be a bit worse for wear coming out of the winter season this year, and ineffective at clearing your windshield properly during rain, sleet, or snow. So before you head out on your summer road trip, it's important to check your windshield wiper blades to see if they need to be replaced. You don't want to get caught driving on the highway during heavy rain and have to pull off because you can't see the road well due to your streaky windshield wipers, adding more time to an already long road trip.

National Car Care Month: Tire Maintenance Checklist

BAY CITY, Mich. –– April is National Car Care Month and after a long harsh winter, your entire vehicle may be in need of some care and maintenance, but most especially your tires. Now that all the slippery ice and snow have melted, our roads are filled with dangerous potholes that could potentially pop your tires or throw off your wheels' alignment. Plus, spring being as rainy a season as it is, still makes for slippery road conditions. So, ensure your car is ready to take on Michigan roads this spring season by completing this tire maintenance checklist for National Car Care Month!

1. Perform Routine Tire Rotations

It is recommended that you rotate your vehicle's tires every 3,000-7,000 miles or every other oil change. Tires tend to wear unevenly, which is why it's important to rotate them to ensure they wear more evenly across all four of them. This will produce better handling overall. 2. Check Out Your Tire Tread

Spring Cleaning Hacks:

Instead of using paper towel or old rags to wipe down surfaces while cleaning, we recommend purchasing microfiber clothes. Their ability to wipe up liquid cleaner, pick up debris, and avoid leaving streaks is far superior.

Use a lint roller to clean your screen doors.

Clean your bathroom walls with a Swiffer or dust mop.

Clean your air vents using a butter knife wrapped in a piece of cloth to get between the slats.

To clean your washing machine, fill it with hot water and add a quart of bleach. Complete one full cycle using only bleach to clean and sanitize. Then, run a second cycle with vinegar to help dissolve soap scum and grime. Lastly, use scrubbing pads to clean around the washer’s drum.

To clean your bathtub or bathroom tile and grout, all you need is baking soda, peroxide, and dish soap to make a budget-friendly cleaner.

Clean out your dishwasher with bleach, vinegar, and baking soda. In this 4 step cleaning process, you will use baking soda, bleach, and vinegar in a separate washing cycle to get your dishwasher smelling and looking like new.

You can clean your blinds by using kitchen tongs wrapped in microfiber cloth. Is your feather duster not doing it for you anymore? Use tongs wrapped in microfiber cloth to rid your blinds of dust and dirt.

Clean your shower head overnight with white vinegar. Fill a sandwich bag with white vinegar and place your shower head in the solution overnight. In the morning you should have a dirt and grime free shower head.

Use toothpaste to erase marker stains from wood, and to remove any drawings your children accidentally put on the walls, scrub lightly on the area with a damp sponge sprinkled in baking soda.

After scrubbing and disinfecting your garbage disposal you can ensure the removal of any stinky smells by running a few lemon rinds through the disposal and then running cold water to dispel any sour odors.

To help remove any pet smells or odors on your furniture or carpet, sprinkle the surfaces affected with baking soda, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then vacuum it up.

Got a scuff or a scratch on your wood furniture? Rub the scratched area with a walnut (shell removed) to mask the damage.

Recently, six different Chevrolet cars, trucks and SUVs won awards in J.D. Power’s 2017 Vehicle Dependability, Initial Quality and APEAL Studies this year. Chevy won a total of won a total of nine J.D. Power awards, making it the most awarded brand of 2017 at the J.D. Power Automotive Summit before the National Association of Auto Dealers Convention.

Vehicle Dependability Study: This study examined issues reported by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles to determine which cars are the most reliable. The following Chevy models were listed as the top performers:
