Standard 8-Speed Transmission on 2015 Chevy Silverado

Standard 8-Speed Transmission on 2015 Chevy Silverado
BAY CITY, Mich. – Not only is it already one of the best pick-up trucks on the market, but it's getting even better because the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado will offer an eight-speed automatic transmission, standard! Which means, Silverado drivers can now feel more confident behind the wheel whether they have a light or heavy load.

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado's new standard eight-speed automatic transmission, Hydra-Matic 8L90, is about the same size and weight as the six-speed automatic transmission, but will offer a better experience for drivers. With a wider, 7.0 overall gear ratio spread, drivers who are trailering or towing a heavy load can start off more confidently. Plus, the new eight-speed enables numerically lower rear axle ratios, reducing engine rpm on the highway.

Not only will the 8L90 be one of the first in any light-duty pickup when it goes into production sometime during the fourth quarter of 2014, but the 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 is also the most powerful engine offered in the segment! Boasting 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, the engine can also seamlessly transition to four-cylinder operation to improve fuel economy under lighter loads.

So whatever your pickup truck needs may be, Chevrolet is there to help with a truck that fits those needs perfectly. Corvette to get 30 MPG with 8-Speed Transmission?

Corvette to get 30 MPG with 8-Speed Transmission?
BAY CITY, Mich.– Corvette and fuel efficiency aren't typically two things that you would associate in the same sentence. But times are a changin' and soon they may be synonymous because the 2015 Corvette Z06 could get 30 mpg with the new 8-speed transmission! Could the new transmission be the final piece to the puzzle facilitating fuel efficiency in Chevy performance vehicles?

According to General Motors in a recent report from the Society of Automotive Engineers, it is that final puzzle piece. GM is confident the 2015 Corvette Z06 8-speed transmission will get 30 mpg. With the current 6-speed, 30 mpg isn't far off and with two extra ratios the 8L90 eight speed transmission improves efficiency by up to 5 percent, which means an EPA-certified 30 mpg highway fuel efficiency rating could be a reality. Plus, the new unit is over eight pounds lighter than the outgoing six-speed, while being equivalent in size. Not to mention, it is capable of shifting 0.8 seconds quicker than the Porsche 911's dual-clutch transmission.

Convinced? The new 8-speed transmission will debut in the 2015 Corvette Z06, but even if a 'Vette isn't in the cards for you, it's possible we may see the standard 2016 model vehicles adopt the new unit! Hank Graff Chevy is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706.
