The 2019 Chevy Silverado Makes Daytona 500 History

BAY CITY, Mich. -- For the first time in Daytona 500 history, the race will be paced by a pickup truck, and the winner of this honor is the 2019 Chevy Silverado. The driver? Someone who's used to leading the pack, Dale Earnhardt Jr, a two-time winner winner of the Daytona 500 among other prestigious racing awards.

"I've had a lot of fun and a lot of success at Daytona over the years, and now I can't wait to get out on that track in a Silverado" Said Earnhardt Jr. " "Away from the track, I've driven Chevy trucks all my life, and I'm excited to have this unique experiencing of pacing the race with the Silverado". While Chevrolet has had the honor of pacing the race several times with the Camaro and Corvette models, this is an all-new step, that particularly excites the company, due to their recent successes in creating cutting-edge truck models. Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Performance Vehicles and Motorsports said "It'll be exciting to have Dale lead the field to green in the strongest, most advanced Silverado ever...he was the perfect choice to pace the race due to his enthusiasm for the sport and his long history with Chevrolet and long of our trucks.".

The Silverado pace truck will be powered by a production 6.2L V-8 engine, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, delivering 420 HP and a 460 lb-ft of torque.

Silverado fans! Are you excited to watch this historical race? What do you think of the choice to use a truck as the race pacer? Comment and let us know!

GM and Cruise Emerge as an Industry Leader in Autonomous Vehicle Tech

BAY CITY, Mich -- An emerging industry leader in autonomous vehicle technology, the GM Cruise has grown from 40 to 1,000 employees at its headquarters in San Francisco, as well caught the attention of Honda and SoftBank with investments reaching a valuation of $14.6 billion. As the next step, they're ready to commercialize self-driving vehicles, with fearless new CEO Dan Ammann at the helm.

Ammann spearheaded the 2016 acquisition of Cruise as the president of GM, and single-handedly oversaw the relationship between the companies. As someone deeply familiar with Cruise's business, technology and team, he was a perfect choice for CEO. "I am excited to dedicate 100% of my time and energy into helping the Cruise team realize our mission of deploying this technology at scale," said Ammann at a recent press conference.

According to GM CEO Mary Barra, the goal is to "transform mobility through the safe deployment of self-driving technology and move us closer to our vision for a future with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion."

Part of this new venture includes an autonomous ride-hailing service that is set to launch in 2019. While an official statement indicating what city will be selected for the maiden voyage of this service has yet to be released, all signs as of late point to Cruise's hometown of San Francisco.

What do you think of the strides currently being made towards launching autonomous vehicle technology? Would you use the new GM Cruise self-driving, ride-hailing service? Why or why not? Comment and let us know. We love hearing from you.

GM Brands Join Forces to Aid Those Affected by Hurricane Florence

GM Brands Join Forces to Aid Those Affected by Hurricane Florence

BAY CITY, Mich. -- On September 14th, Hurricane Florence made landfall in the Carolinas on the East Coast of the United States and is reported to have caused an estimated $38 billion in property damage, making it the 6th costliest hurricane in North America to date. In the wake of the devastation, thousands of people are left to pick up the pieces and rebuild, although they won't have to do it all alone.

To do their part, General Motors has mobilized all brands underneath its banner - including OnStar, GM Financial, Customer Sales, and Aftercare - to launch several special relief efforts to help their customers affected by Hurricane Florence recover as quickly as possible.

These efforts include:

  • Complementary Crisis Assist from OnStar to customers with properly equipped GM vehicles (2006 and newer) in affected areas, providing emergency services, routing assistance, survival resource information, Hands-Free Calling minutes and 4G LTE Wi-Fi data via AT&T. This all comes regardless of if the customer is enrolled with OnStar or not.
  • GM Financial is assisting impacted customers with payment arrangements and waiving most related fees. Eligible customers who must replace a vehicle destroyed in the storm may qualify for a 90-day deferred first payment on a new vehicle.
  • GM Genuine Parts and ACDelco is providing expedited delivery of service parts to help speed up vehicle repairs.
  • Inventory of new and used vehicles is being sent to the region to assist with meeting expected replacement demand, including demand for pre-owned vehicles, courtesy transportation, and insurance rentals.
  • Impacted customers replacing a vehicle damaged by the storm in the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia are eligible for $1,000 in purchase assistance for almost all 2018 and 2019 models under the GM brand, in addition to other incentives including discounts to military families and first responders. Customers who are leasing are eligible for $500 lease allowance, on top of the aforementioned incentives.
    • Residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia must present an insurance claim form indicating vehicle damage as a result of Hurricane Florence. The offer is valid until the end of October, excludes select trim levels, and is not available with some other offers.
“The entire GM family of brands and services has come together to aid those experiencing the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence – this is personal for us as many of our families, friends, dealer partners, and employees are among those directly impacted,” says Alan Batey, president of GM North America.

From all of us at Graff Bay City, our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by Hurricane Florence, and wish you a smooth and speedy recovery process.

The Future Is Female: GM Forms the First-Ever, All-Girl Robotics Team in Detroit

BAY CITY, Mich. -- In addition to leading the company's autonomous vehicle development, General Motors engineer Keysha Camps is helping to secure the future of engineering for women by teaching a group of high school girls in Detroit the skills they need to succeed. The girls in question, who call their all-girl robotics team the Mercy Midnight Storm (after the Mercy Education Project from which they hail), are part of the future of autonomous vehicle technology, according to Camps.

The Mercy Midnight Storm is Detroit's first all-girl robotics team to be part of the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) organization and competes against other Michigan high schools in various robotics competitions. FIRST is a global initiative that promotes interest and education in the fields of science and technology amongst youth through accessible and innovative programs.

The mentorship that Camps provides to the girls of Mercy Midnight Storm through FIRST is invaluable, as women make up only 14% of American engineers and one-in-four bachelor's degrees in engineering are awarded to women. Camps strives to increase these numbers by being a positive female role model to girls with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers and encouraging them to break down gender barriers in these predominately male fields.

Camps says that she initially decided to join the FIRST organization because she wanted to help kids in Detroit, and was inspired by the numerous non-profits operating in the city aimed at improving the lives of youth. Her efforts with the Mercy Midnight Storm reflects the example set by GM CEO Mary Barra, who herself holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering along with an MBA.

GM is Leading the Race in Solar Energy

GM is Leading the Race in Solar Energy

BAY CITY, Mich. – According to the Solar Means Business report released by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), GM is leading the race in solar energy for the automotive industry.

But not only is GM leading the race in solar energy for the automotive industry, it’s also ranked No. 20 in the top 25 solar-powered companies in the U.S. In 2013, GM joined SEIA to advocate for a better U.S. solar industry. GM has added 10 solar arrays since then and also helped launch the Business Renewables Center.

In addition to these solar arrays, GM is installing an 850-kilowatt array at their Bowling Green plant, home of the Chevrolet Corvette, in Kentucky. It will be the largest solar installation done by any car company in Kentucky. The setup will generate 1.2 million kilowatt hours of energy annually, enough to make about 850 Corvettes.

Also, in the next several months, GM has plans to add more than 2 megawatts of solar energy to its facilities. One of them will be a 466-kilowatt array at their Rochester Operations facility in New York and another will be an 800-kilowatt array at the Warren Transmission plant here in Michigan.

Overall, GM has an industry-leading 11.4 megawatts of solar arrays throughout 16 U.S. facilities. These arrays generate about 15 million kilowatt hours of energy, which eliminates about 11 million pounds of coal burned.

You can make your green footprint along with us by purchasing one of our used cars or trucks for sale near Midland, MI. Come by Graff Bay City and we’ll help you find a great car to take home!

A Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chevrolet Colorado is Being Tested

A Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chevrolet Colorado is Being Tested
Design sketch of the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chevy Colorado
BAY CITY, Mich. – A hydrogen fuel cell Chevrolet Colorado is being tested by the U.S. Army’s Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC).

The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chevrolet Colorado is being tested by the military extensively for the next 12 months. Of course, we don’t know what tests will be done by the military because that’s confidential, but if the midsize pickup can make it through that, it can make it through anything.

Fuel cell propulsion has very low-end torque capability making it great for off-roading. It also provides exportable electric power and quiet operation, which are great features for a commercial and military use.

Fuel cell vehicles help address two major environment challenges that automobiles face today, which are petroleum use and carbon dioxide emissions. The only emission this Colorado will have is water vapor because the truck runs on renewable hydrogen from sources like wind and biomass.

In 2007 GM launched a 119-vehicle fleet of hydrogen fuel cell Chevrolet Equinoxes and called it “Project Driveway.” The fleet was driven more than 3 million miles by more than 5,000 consumers. GM expects the Chevrolet Colorado to have just as positive results.

GM and TARDEC have fuel cell development and research facilities about 20 minutes away from each other in Pontiac and Warren. The two will continue to collaborate as TARDEC puts the hydrogen fuel cell truck through the rigorous testing.

While this truck is obviously not out for purchase, you can still head on over to our Kawkawlin area Chevrolet dealer to find yourself a "normal" Chevrolet Colorado. It’s a great vehicle for the snowy winter ahead!

GM’s New Car-Sharing Program Makes City Driving Easy

GM’s New Car-Sharing Program

BAY CITY, Mich. – This week is big for New Yorkers! Let’s Drive NYC, GM’s new car-sharing program that makes city driving easy, was recently launched. Having a car in the city isn’t worth the cost and hassle, but this new program is a game changer.

GM recently paired with The Ritz Plaza, a 479-unit luxury apartment building, and Icon Parking Systems, owning 200 parking structures in the city, to launch their new car-sharing program, Let’s Drive NYC.

Residents of The Ritz Plaza in midtown Manhattan are the only ones eligible to use GM’s new car sharing program. They have a GM-developed app for their phones that will reserve a vehicle and parking to make city driving easy. The vehicle choices are 10 Chevrolet vehicles, eight Trax and two Equinox SUVs, but more will be added later.

With consideration of lease payments, The Ritz Plaza gave residents credit for three hours of rental per month. If used more, renters pay less than $10 an hour and up to $75 for a 24-hour reservation.

GM is excited to be a leader in an urban mobility strategy and The Ritz Plaza is excited to better the lifestyles of its residents. GM also has car-sharing partnerships with China and German so they can understand and address the problems of urban transportation.

We’ll have to wait until a car-sharing program comes to Michigan, but until then check out our new Chevy cars for sale. We can even take care of your auto service at your Bay City dealership.

Updated 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Coming This Fall

Updated 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Coming This Fall
BAY CITY, Mich. – Chevrolet's efforts to update and refresh their lineup have definitely been paying off, and part of that can be attributed to the solid positioning of the Impala. However, when it comes to the mid-size Malibu, the current generation model has seen an increase in competition. So what does Chevy do? Make it better! An updated 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is coming this Fall and recently Mark Reuss hinted at what we can expect when it debuts!

This Fall the updated 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is expected to begin arriving on dealership lots and according to Mark Reuss, GM's executive vice president of global product development, the new model's styling will blow you away! Just how the redesigned Impala exceeds expectations, the 2016 Malibu is set to do the same; delivering more than you'd expect to get at that price.

But what type of styling can we expect? Well, you may remember a while back we reported that Chevrolet was going to start incorporating Corvette Stingray influences into all of it's models, and that was hinted at that once again. Apparently, the next-gen Malibu taillights will incorporate a hint of Stingray, while rear leg room will be increased, and front-seat hip room will become more accommodating.

If you can't wait until Fall to upgrade your ride, stop by our Chevrolet Dealership Serving Linwood to explore Chevy's current award-winning lineup! Hank Graff Chevy is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706 and we are here to help our community grow to become an even better place to call home! For more information on Hank Graff Chevrolet, or for any questions call us at (989) 684-4411 or visit our website: www.GraffBayCity.com.

Special Edition Corvette 'Zora'?

Special Edition Corvette 'Zora'?

BAY CITY, Mich. – Zora Arkus-Duntov. He was the father of the Corvette and by adding a V-8 engine to the first generation Corvette, he was able to take the vehicle into sports car territory. He also introduced the Grand Sport program which helped make the second generation Corvette a world class racing success. So why the Corvette history lesson?

According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, General Motors has just trademarked the name Zora making us think a special edition Corvette 'Zora' may be on the horizon! Trademarking a name is nothing new. Automakers do it all the time for future models or to protect their history. However, this particular filing is significant because of the wording which states GM will reserve Zora for "motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles."

Although a special edition Corvette 'Zora' has not been confirmed by General Motors, we will keep you updated on all the latest Chevy news right here! Hank Graff Chevy is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706 and we can help you find the perfect vehicle for your weekend getaway! For more information on Hank Graff Chevrolet, or for any questions call us at (989) 684-4411 or visit our website: www.GraffBayCity.com.

Chevrolet Updates Silverado for 2015

Chevrolet Updates Silverado for 2015
BAY CITY, Mich. – The 2014 Silverado just recently arrived on the scene, so no way it's getting an update for 2015, right? Think again. Competition in the full-size truck segment has never been stiffer and according to a recent report, the Chevrolet Silverado will be updated for 2015! Rumor has it General Motors is fast-tracking some of the updates that have been in the works for the truck to be included in the 2015 model.

With tough competition from competing models, GM can't afford the Silverado to not be the most popular truck on the road. And what better way to accomplish that than by taking an already impressive truck and making it even better? In a recent interaction with The Detroit News, the Silverado Executive Chief Engineer didn't reveal much detail on the updates, but gave us a glimpse into the new Chevrolet Silverado updates for 2015. Most important for the 2015 truck is improved fuel economy. A rumored eight-speed transmission, or one that uses more than the current six gears, would provide better fuel efficiency. Coupled with start-stop technology and a drastic weight loss through the use of aluminum and composite materials, the 2015 Chevy Silverado could see fuel economy improvements of up to 20%. In addition to more miles per tank, the new Silverado is also expected to feature new technology and appearance enhancements.

“You’ll see these kinds of technologies over the next few years, a whole array of neat, new technologies, some focused on fuel economy, some focused on capability,” Luke, GM's Silverado Executive Chief Engineer, said to The Detroit News.

Since the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado is expected to be released before the end of 2014, we won't have to wait long to officially confirm these details! Hank Graff Chevy is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706 and we can help you find the perfect truck for your needs! For more information on Hank Graff Chevrolet, or for any questions call us at (989) 684-4411 or visit our website: www.GraffBayCity.com.

Corvette to get 30 MPG with 8-Speed Transmission?

Corvette to get 30 MPG with 8-Speed Transmission?
BAY CITY, Mich.– Corvette and fuel efficiency aren't typically two things that you would associate in the same sentence. But times are a changin' and soon they may be synonymous because the 2015 Corvette Z06 could get 30 mpg with the new 8-speed transmission! Could the new transmission be the final piece to the puzzle facilitating fuel efficiency in Chevy performance vehicles?

According to General Motors in a recent report from the Society of Automotive Engineers, it is that final puzzle piece. GM is confident the 2015 Corvette Z06 8-speed transmission will get 30 mpg. With the current 6-speed, 30 mpg isn't far off and with two extra ratios the 8L90 eight speed transmission improves efficiency by up to 5 percent, which means an EPA-certified 30 mpg highway fuel efficiency rating could be a reality. Plus, the new unit is over eight pounds lighter than the outgoing six-speed, while being equivalent in size. Not to mention, it is capable of shifting 0.8 seconds quicker than the Porsche 911's dual-clutch transmission.

Convinced? The new 8-speed transmission will debut in the 2015 Corvette Z06, but even if a 'Vette isn't in the cards for you, it's possible we may see the standard 2016 model vehicles adopt the new unit! Hank Graff Chevy is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706.
