8 Makeovers You Need to Give Your Holiday Bird This Year

BAY CITY, Mich. -- Are you tired of the same old holiday turkey recipe your family has been eating for generations dragging down your otherwise bomb Thanksgiving feast? Us too. Check out all these delicious ways to give your bird the beautiful makeover it deserves this year. Glazed, braised, smoked, bacon-wrapped? Yes Please.

1. ADOBO TURKEY WITH RED-CHILE GRAVY

This bird is the word. Slightly spicy, but brimming with deep, complex flavor, this recipe kicks your Thanksgiving feast up a Southwestern notch.

Get the recipe here: https://bit.ly/2AW1iFU

2. BACON-WRAPPED TURKEY

Bacon makes everything better, and this turkey is no exception. Not only does the crispy bacon "skin" look and taste amazing, it creates a barrier of salt, fat, and moisture that keeps the turkey moist and seasons it while it cooks.

Get the recipe here: https://bit.ly/2AWiFGT

3. SPICE-RUBBED TURKEY WITH CRANBERRY BBQ SAUCE

If your family just can't get enough BBQ, try this awesome recipe out. The spice rub creates a perfect blackened crust on the turkey skin, and the cranberry sauce is the perfect combination of sweet, tart, and slightly spicy.

Get the recipe here: https://bit.ly/2PO1rDx

4. ROASTED TURKEY BREAST WITH CHORIZO

Forego the typical whole bird this year and try roasting a whole bird instead! It's faster and incredibly moist. This recipe plays with some Spanish influence by incorporating chorizo and pimenton, a sweet Spanish paprika for an elegant spin on traditional Thanksgiving flavors.

Get the recipe here: https://bit.ly/2JPCmCO

5. STOCK-BRAISED TURKEY LEGS

Not only does this recipe step away from the traditional whole turkey, you can make it a few days to a week ahead! If you're unfamiliar with braising, give it a try! It makes for extremely tender, deeply seasoned meat. These legs make perfect pulled turkey sandwiches the next day, too!

Get the recipe here: https://bit.ly/2T0Ry4k

6. APPLEWOOD SMOKED TURKEY

A recipe for smoked turkey you can make right on your grill! Applewood chips lend a sweet, slightly fruity flavor to this bird, pair it with a sage-seasoned, sausage stuffing, and a peppery gravy. Perfect for BBQ sandwiches the day after too!

Get the recipe here: https://bit.ly/2DeN98C

 7. PEPPER-POMEGRANATE GLAZED TURKEY

Glazing a turkey adds flavor to the drippings and enhances the flavor of the bird. This molasses-based, pepper and pomegranate glaze from Bobby Flay is slightly sweet and pairs wonderfully with roasted root vegetables or a nutmeg-spiced corn casserole.

Get the recipe here: https://bit.ly/2RMsgWd

8. BUTTERFLIED TURKEY WITH YUCATAN RUB

Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard about the unbelievable effects the butterfly cooking method has on your ordinary bird. We're here to tell you the rumors are true. The cook time is faster, the meat is amazingly tender, and the skin is oh-so-crispy. This recipe calls for a brined bird, so prep time is a little long, but so worth it.

10 Ways To Give Thanks

BAY CITY, Mich. – Everyone knows that Thanksgiving is the time of year to be with family and reflect on all of the blessings in your life. Being thankful for what you have is a very important lesson to teach to your children. Try some of these 10 ways to give thanks to be more introspective and appreciative this Thanksgiving season.

10 Ways To Give Thanks

Write Thank You Letters

Go to the store and buy some thank you letters. Write a heartfelt message to all those in your life who you are thankful for and deliver the letters before Thanksgiving!

Donate

Whether its food, clothing, or money, donating to help those in need is a great way to give back and appreciate the things you have.

Volunteer

Volunteering your time is something that anyone can do. Whether it be at an animal shelter, a local homeless shelter, or a soup kitchen, it's always important to give back. All of these places can especially use your help during the holiday season.

Give Out Gifts

Bake some treats, get some dollar store toys, or make little goody-bags to give out to friends, teachers, and other people in your life.

Create a Thankful Tree

Grab a fallen tree branch out of your backyard to start making a Thankful Tree! This simple craft is a great way to have a conversation with your children about being thankful for the things they have like family, pets, their favorite toys, and more.

Talk About Being Thankful at Dinner

Before you sit down together, at Thanksgiving or any other night this November, take a moment, go around the table and have each family member say what they are thankful for.

Be Extra Grateful Out in Public

Spread gratitude and kindness out in public to make the world a nicer place this November. Say thank you, smile, be vocally appreciative to your neighbors, store clerks, and others.

Send a Care Package to Military Members

Show your thanks and appreciation for our military service members by sending them a care package for the holidays with treats, letters, and other comforts from home. We recommend going through Operation Gratitude.

Donate a Thanksgiving Dinner

You can donate to local food banks and sponsor a family in need with a Thanksgiving dinner this year. It will mean a great deal to the family you sponsor to have a warm meal on Thanksgiving.

Invite Those in Need to Thanksgiving

Can you think of anyone you know who might benefit from a warm and friendly meal? Maybe someone you know who doesn't have a family Thanksgiving of their own to go to or family friends who have fallen on hard times? Reach out to them and make a difference this holiday season.

Spend the Thanksgiving season reflecting on all that you have and being appreciative this year with any of these 10 ways to give thanks. To show our appreciation for all our customers, we've got special service coupons that you can download and use to save big on your next trip to our Graff Bay City Service Center.
