9 Things You Need to Know About the C7 Corvette

9 Things You Need to Know About the C7 Corvette
BAY CITY, Mich. - The Chevrolet Corvette C7 is  one of the year's most hotly anticipated vehicles, and is expected to hit dealerships in the fall of this year. So while we eagerly await it's release, here are 9 things you need to know about the C7 Corvette:

1. The C7 marks the first use of a 'shape memory alloy wire' in a production vehicle. The new corvette uses a smart material wire, which is typically made of copper-aluminum-nickel or nickel-titanium. The reason that it is called 'smart material' is because this material can change its shape, strength and stiffness when it encounters heat, a magnetic field, voltage, etc. When the heat, voltage, etc. is removed, the 'smart material' will return to its original shape.

2. The C7's eLSD (Electronic Limited-Slip Differential) goes from open to full lock in tenths of a second. This eLSD will come standard with the Z51 Performance Package and uses a hydraulically actuated clutch to vary the amount of engagement - open to full lock in tenths of a second.  This is especially handy in notoriously bad Michigan weather.

3. Corvettes equipped with Z51 Performance Package or an automatic transmission get functional vents and rear-mounted transmission and differential heat exchangers.

4. NASA-developed insulation, called Aerogel, is used on the transmission tunnel. While the C6 was known for getting a little warm, the C7 uses Aerogel (a material used in space suits) to combat the heat in the center tunnel. Aerogel is an amazing material that is 99.8% air and insulates 39 times better than fiberglass.

5. 30 mpg - enough said.

6. $50k has always been the goal. With so many cool features packed into the C7, it's hard to believe that they were able to keep the base price at $50k. However, they set out in the beginning with intentions of not increasing the price too much. They were able to cut back the cost without taking anything away from the vehicle.

7. It's tires are amazing. Michelin worked with the Corvette team for 36 months to create tires for the car, and the result was the Pilot Super Sport ZP. This is a hybrid of the PS2 and PS Cup.

8. No more cross-drilled rotors! They have been replaced with new discs that are vented with shallow grooves. The C7 is also equipped with Brembo brakes.

9. Speaking of tires, the tires have asymmetrical sidewalls. This simply means that the walls of the tires are 3-mm thicker and made with stiffer construction to maximize comfort and turns.

We hope that these 9 things you need to know about the C7 Corvette has gotten you as excited for it's release as we are! With so many great features, this car is sure to satisfy your need for speed, as well as make you feel luxurious.  If you don't want to wait for the release of this vehicle, you can always check out our 2013 Chevy Corvette Brochure! 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 Will Be Unveiled in Detroit

2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 Will Be Unveiled in Detroit
BAY CITY, Mich. - Although the North American Auto Show is still a few months away, it is believed that the 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 will be unveiled in Detroit. The seventh-generation Corvette was revealed this last January at the Detroit Auto Show, so unveiling the 2015 Corvette Z06 at the same event would make perfect sense. Along with the 2015 Corvette Z06, the Corvette C7.R race car is expected to debut as well.

As for specifications of the 2015 Corvette Z06, not much is known. However, many have speculated that the Corvette will keep the 7.0-liter V8 but that the horsepower will increase to about 600 hp! With that kind of horsepower, the corvette would be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than 3.7 seconds. Now that's fast!

The current 2014 Corvette has a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 450 hp and more than 450 lb-ft of torque. It also goes from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and the EPA highway mileage is around 26 mpg. The decrease in 0-60 time is due to reduced weight and increased performance - the weight will probably decrease even more as the 2015 Corvette is expected to go even faster.

Although we have to wait until the 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 is unveiled in Detroit, to get the exact car specs, the 2013 Chevy Corvette Brochure is available for perusing right now! 2014 Corvette Stingray

2014 Corvette Stingray
BAY CITY, Mich.- Since the announcement in late 2012 that Chevrolet planned to reveal a completely redesigned Corvette early in 2013, we've been patiently, or impatiently, awaiting the big debut! Well the wait is officially over, as the exciting unveiling took place Sunday night at a Detroit Auto Show preview event at Russell Industrial Center in Detroit. The most anticipated introduction, Chevy's all new 2014 Corvette Stingray did not disappoint!

Speeding right to the important details, the 7th Generation Corvette is the most powerful standard model...EVER. Featuring a LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine, the all new Vette puts out an estimated 450 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft or torque, compared to just 430 hp in the 2013 Corvette, and jets from 0-60 mph in less than four seconds! Fuel economy was not sacrificed for power, either. The 2014 Corvette Stingray delivers more power with less fuel and is expected to be the most fuel efficient Chevy Corvette, although the gas mileage numbers have not yet been certified.

2014 Corvette StingrayContaining just two parts from the 2013 Vette, the 2014 Corvette Stingray has been completely redesigned inside and out. Structurally, the newest Corvette's frame is now made of aluminum in addition to the light weight carbon fiber roof and hood to reduce weight, instead of the traditional steel frame. The carbon fiber accents are carried over to the interior of the new C7 as well, complimenting the new stitched leather.

Featuring styling cues from the iconic 1960's Corvette, the evolutionary 2014 Corvette Stingray is an impressive new addition to the Corvette line-up. Stay tuned for more detailed information about the 2014 Corvette C7 features and specifications.
