Plus, as parents, you know that the last thing you want is for your kids to feel cooped up or go stir-crazy. So when the weather isn't cooperating, try any of these nine rainy day activities to do with your kids to keep from saying the dreaded phrase, "I'm bored!"

9 Rainy Day Activities to Do with Your Kids

Play Cards or Board Games

Keeping those little minds occupied is always tricky, so on the next rainy day, pull out a deck of cards or some board games! Card games can keep your kids intrigued for hours! Play Slapjack, Old Maid, Six Card Golf, Crazy Eights, or the classic, Go Fish! That, or it's never too early to teach a young Michigander how to play Euchre!

Have a Dance Party

It's never the wrong time to get the wiggles out by dancing and singing along to your favorite music!

Bake Some Treats

Rainy days are always perfect for indulging your sweet tooth. Plus the warm and pleasant smells of baking some confectionary treats will make it feel less dreary outside. Try a batch of brownies, cookies, or even some homemade ice cream, all of which are simple recipes that your little ones can help whip up!

Go Bowling

This is a great way to still be active and get out of the house when the weather isn't cooperating! Visit any of the fun-filled bowling alleys in Bay City, including Bay Lanes, Monitor Lanes, or Washington Lanes.

Hold a Fashion Show

Let your kids dress up in some fancy clothes or costumes and strut their stuff on the runway! Dressing up is always fun!

Read Books

Dreary days are ideal for curling up with a good book! Or, to get out of your house, take a trip to your local library. Either way, you'll promote literacy with your young children and inspire their imagination to wander to the far reaches of creativity!

Build a Blanket & Pillow Fort

Everyone's favorite indoor activity. Create a fun little shelter where you kids can play inside with their toys, read a book, or take a nap.

Play Hide and Seek

Another fun game that will keep your kids active and engaged even when they can't play outside due to the weather.

Watch a Movie

Whether you head to the movie theater or have your own private screening at home, have some fun watching a movie or two on a rainy day! Make (or buy) some popcorn, grab a blanket and get comfy on the couch. Or, you can even watch from your pillow fort!

So help keep your kids happy and having fun with these nine rainy day activities to do with your kids this spring! How to Child Proof Your Car

BAY CITY, Mich.,–– Picture this: you finally finish cleaning your vehicle. After all the detailing, vacuuming, and cleaning, it looks good as new. Suddenly, disaster strikes. Your children set foot in your vehicle, snacks in hand. Before you know it, your pristine backseat reverts to a messy shell of its former self. Avoid a potential tragedy by knowing how to child proof your car. From simple backseat organization tips to interior vehicle protection, protect your vehicle from even the stickiest of fingers with our handy guide today.

Utilize Your Vehicle's Childproof Technology

How to Child Proof Your Car

Your vehicle is equipped with several standard features to ensure the safety of your passengers. Engaging your vehicle's childproof locks will prevent your younger children from opening the doors while you drive. Flipping the childproof lock switch will allow you to open your vehicle's doors from the outside, but not the inside. You can also engage window locks to prevent your backseat passengers from opening the windows, making your backseat a much safer place.

Turn Cupcake Liners Into Cup Holder Protectors

How to Child Proof Your Car

While the title may seem like a mouthful, these quick and easy cup holder protectors can make a huge difference in keeping your vehicle clean! Whether your passengers need a place to put loose change, trash, crumbs, or other debris, cupcake liners make cleaning your cup holders easy work. They only take a few seconds to "install", and prevent any unnecessary messes from building up in your car! You'll be surprised at how much of a difference this little bit of maintenance can make.

Repurpose Your Remote Holder into a Car Organizer

How to Child Proof Your Car

Using nothing but a Flort from IKEA, you can quickly stow and organize your child's entertainment in the backseat to prevent any distractions from occurring. Store snacks, colored pencils, notebooks, and even iPads for quick and easy access for your passengers! They will learn the benefits of organization while you focus on the road, distraction free. With this car organizer, you won't have to constantly reach in the backseat to help your child find what they're looking for. It'll be within their reach!

Keep Plenty of On-the-Road Entertainment On Hand

How to Child Proof Your Car

No one wants to hear the dreaded "Are we there yet?" while on a long road trip. Prevent this disastrous saying from ever leaving your passengers' lips by keeping them occupied during any drive, no matter how long or short. You can use the repurposed Flort from earlier or repurpose a shoe organizer for a creative and organized entertainment center. Pack multiple forms of entertainment - iPads, coloring books, novels, toys, or anything else you know your child enjoys to ensure your drive goes (virtually) complaint-free.

Create an Activity Tray Out of a Cookie Sheet

How to Child Proof Your Car

Using velcro straps and a cookie sheet, you can create a quick and easy activity tray for your kids during longer drives. They can play, color, build, and enjoy any entertainment they may have brought along on a leveled surface. Plus, if you stop for a quick bite to eat along the way, they can use the activity tray as a makeshift table to enjoy their food without any unnecessary mess! The cookie sheet activity tray is easy to install and can be easily removed if needed.

We at Graff Bay City prioritize the safety of drivers and passengers on the road. In order to ensure the safety of everyone in and out of the vehicle, the driver must remain fully focused on the road and avoid any potential distractions. Knowing how to child proof your car can make all the difference in the world whether you're on a short or long drive. If you're headed on a road trip or longer drive soon, you can further reduce the stress of long drives by keeping your kids entertained on the journey ahead. If you're in the market to purchase a new vehicle or want to increase the safety of you and your passengers, take a look at some of the safety features worth installing to improve your on-the-road safety. Our model overview page gives detailed descriptions on which vehicles offer specific safety features. You can find something for everyone at Graff Bay City!

6th Annual PJ's For Preemies Clothing Drive

6th Annual PJ's For Preemies Clothing Drive

BAY CITY, Mich. – This year at Graff Bay City we are officially designating the upcoming holiday months as the Season of Giving! We are so appreciative of all the support our community shows us throughout the year and we want to do what we can to give back, starting with the 6th Annual PJ's for Preemies Clothing Drive!

Every year this event is a smashing success and it is truly rewarding to see our friends, family, and neighbors come together to make a difference in the lives of families who are faced with premature births. Since no one expects their child to be born prematurely, these families are often not prepared with the clothing their child needs. Through the PJ's for Preemies Clothing Drive, we are able to provide the right sized clothing for these babies during their stay at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, since they are typically much smaller than full-term babies.

We want to invite you to join us in the 6th Annual PJ's for Preemies Clothing Drive to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw, MI! Just stop by Graff Bay City to drop off your donation of new or like-new pjs with snap or button fronts in preemie through 3 month sizes! In particular, gowns and newborn sizes are needed this year! And, like last year, GRAFF BAY CITY WILL MATCH ALL DONATIONS!

Together we can all make a difference in our local community! Get more information on the PJ's for Preemies Foundation: http://pjsforpreemies.com/

Hank Graff Chevy is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706 and we are here to help you find the perfect car, truck, or SUV for your new family! For more information on Hank Graff Chevrolet, or for any questions call us at (989) 684-4411 or visit our website: www.GraffBayCity.com.

Help the kids form a habit of completing their homework right when they get home by making sure they are equipped to do so. Creating a homework station with all the supplies they may need will help them stay focused, while designating a specific folder for papers that need to be signed will make sure they get back to school on time.

Mother's Day Blog...How I balance family and career

BAY CITY, Mich.- As a mother and business owner, I am writing this blog with respect to all the mothers in today’s world to reveal my thoughts, feelings and how I balance family, work, health and fun. While I know we all lead different lifestyles and are at different points in our lives, I wanted to put this out there with the hope that I may be able to help someone in some way.
A short background I am a mother of 3 children ages 17, 15 and 10; two older boys and the youngest is a girl. I have been married for close to 20 years and have been in the workforce for 30 years, with 25 of them at the dealership. But to give you an example of the direction of my motivation, I didn’t spend a long time away from work even when my children were young. We have two biological sons and we adopted our daughter when she 10 months old. I was away from work the longest when we adopted our daughter, which was two weeks. With both boys I was back to work within a week and a half. Fortunately I am blessed with a very supportive family and a husband that helped with midnight feedings, sick babies and everything else that comes with a family of 5.

Clearly my philosophies aren't for everyone, however we all deal with very similar balance issues no matter what our parenting and work styles are. My workweek can range from 45 hours to 70 hours, and with a family of 5 our lives can get quite hectic at times, especially with the pressure on families today. At this point I feel I may lose some of you who are reading this that may have differing opinions. But as a mother of 3 children I am a firm believer in education, no matter what their personal skills are. Our children are not rewarded for getting A's and B's in the classroom, it is expected. All sports are secondary in our house, we encourage art, music, culture and work. And we believe leading a healthy life is very important so we teach our children how to eat right and exercise. Not to say sports are discouraged in our household, but our children must maintain A's and B's in the classroom if they would like to participate in a sport. Since we spend a lot of hours at work, Sundays are more about being home as a family. On Sundays we will spend time together both outside in the yard and to prepare dinner for the evening, as well as preparing foods for the week. Like I said, we stress the importance of a healthy lifestyle and teach our children about eating right and exercise. For us it’s all about being active and trying to exercise as a family when possible, for example riding bikes. We strongly discourage any fast foods and stress the fresher the better. And while no one is perfect, it’s all about balance.

Part of that balance involves all of the technology available in today’s world, which can be challenging for families. Like with the sports, technology use is not discouraged in our household as long as your behavior remains positive and your technology use is balanced with other activities like exercise, reading and spending time outdoors. And while cell phones have become second nature, we don't advocate cell phones for our children until absolutely necessary. Phones, computers, and technology are considered a privilege in our home, and are received by following the rules and completing chores. We even made an acronym that helps us follow house rules: RULES FOR PRIVILEGES.
Respect
-Understanding
-Listen
-Expect nothing material-Silent when told
Friendly
-Obey
-Remember manners
Politeness
-Rest
-In tune to your surroundings
-Volunteer (don't wait to be asked)
-Initiate positive behavior-
Love
-Everyone accepts responsibility for themselves-Give help when needed

-End arguing
-Show gratitude

To go along with household disciplines, we don't use certain words within our household like “hate”, “stupid”, “idiot”, or any other word that you can't come back from. I teach my children to avoid the names and terms that are acceptable in our world today. I carry these same teachings with my dealership team as well.

While we do work a lot, we spend a lot of time together as a family while also making an effort to give our children individual attention as well. We even have them join us when hosting an event, whether it is a for-profit or non- profit event. Volunteering is encouraged as well in an effort to teach them that that we are only as good as our community is and what we put into it. We want them to be able to make good decisions on their own and this starts at a very young age. My husbands teases me now though because our children are very good at convincing us of their point of view when it comes to their privileges.

My mom taught me that the main job of being a good mother is to teach our children how to be independent and be responsible for themselves, even in their young adult years. As you can imagine, this can be a very difficult way to raise a child since as a mother, your natural tendency is to be there for them and take care of everything. However I have learned that it will create a healthier and happier relationship with my children in the long run, especially when they are out on their own.
At this point in my life, it’s obvious that both career and family are extremely high priorities, but I try my best to keep a balance. Balance for me is feeling accomplished in both family and career. To balance everything I have discussed while trying to be the best person that I can be, no matter what I choose to do. Importantly, I try not to judge others as I am a firm believer in you don't know what someone else is going through unless you walk in their shoes. My belief is to carry and conduct yourself in a way that you want to be treated. Don't judge anyone but yourself and only judge yourself if it is productive. I also believe you can't fully love anyone else unless you love yourself unconditionally which is especially hard for women in today’s world. Again, none of us are perfect, but I try to work everyday to love myself the way I am and work hard at being the person I want to be. I use my experiences and the way people treat me to determine who I surround myself with since relationships are very important in life at every level.

Overall, I am extremely proud of all of our children for several different reasons. One common reason among all 3 of them is that they push to be the best at whatever they put their mind to. Our life is far from perfect and we are going through the same behavior issues as many families, so some of this is tough to write because I can't always follow the rules and disciplines that we have set in place, which makes me feel a bit hypocritical, however when I really reflect on the past 25 years of work, life and family our base set of beliefs have allowed us to create a very well bonded family of 5 that I hope will continue flourish for a lifetime! As they say, nothing comes without hard work. It is an ongoing challenge.

In closing I am a mother and wife that loves her husband, children and family very much. I am blessed to have a solid career that I continue to enjoy and grow in. I work daily to achieve a healthy balance, teaching our children that we are a family and that means we love, respect and live as a family that is accountable for our actions. We are here to be each other’s support no matter what, with the belief that we should treat others the way we want to be treated, being loving and respectful to each other.

Happy Mothers Day!
