1 Millionth Corvette is Restored and Back Home

BAY CITY, MI – After 1,200 man-hours, four months, a lot of sweat, and crazy attention to detail the 1 millionth Corvette is restored and back in it’s home at the National Corvette Museum.

In February 2014, the 1 millionth Corvette, along with seven other Corvettes, fell into a sinkhole that opened up in the museum’s Skydome area. Chevrolet promised to restore it because it’s important to the Corvette’s history and story.

The project was sent to the Design Center on GM’s campus in Warren, MI. There was a combination of 30 engineers and craftspeople that worked on the restoration. The most important part was to preserve as much as they could, but there was a lot of significant damage done to the car. They were fully prepared to take on the challenge though with a highly skilled team and specialty shops at their disposal.

There was a lot that needed to be done for the Corvette to look new again. The most prominent fixes were:

• Hood, front fascia, lower panels behind the font wheels and doors were all replaced 
• Number of ancillary parts under the hood were replaced
• Rear fascia and front exhaust system were repaired
• Front sub-frame was straightened out
• Wheels were reconditioned
• Soft cover on the instrument panel was carefully removed and replaced
• Red leather seats were restored with a few replacement patches

One of the unexpected surprises of the restoration was what the team found under all the damaged parts. While taking the car apart they found signatures on each piece that was signed by the employees that built the Corvette 23 years ago.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible Introduced

BAY CITY, Mich. – Ahead of its expected New York Auto Show Debut, the brand new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible was introduced, becoming one of the most capable drop-tops on the market! For the first time since 1963, you will be able to enjoy open air driving in the most powerful convertible ever produced by Chevy!

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible introduction is particularly significant because until recently, an open roof model wasn’t possible for a vehicle with this much capability. The lightweight structures just weren’t strong enough to handle the supercar’s braking, cornering, and acceleration. In fact, the last time a convertible Z06 was offered from the factory was in 1963! However, thanks to today’s advancements in computer-aided engineering, metallurgy, and manufacturing techniques, the aluminum chassis of the newest Corvette Z06 is 20 percent stiffer than previous models, making a drop-top possible!

Neither performance, power, nor precision are sacrificed with the Z06 convertible either. The only difference between the coupe and convertible models are the provisions for mounting the power folding top which required the seatbelt mounts to be repositioned and the trans and differential coolers to be relocated to the underbody. So pick your preference out of the four colors available for the thick fabric top, three basic configurations: Standard, Carbon Fiber Aero Package, or Z07 Package, and then get ready to make the most of the Z06’s 625 horsepower made possible by the new LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine.

2014 Corvette Stingray

BAY CITY, Mich.- Since the announcement in late 2012 that Chevrolet planned to reveal a completely redesigned Corvette early in 2013, we've been patiently, or impatiently, awaiting the big debut! Well the wait is officially over, as the exciting unveiling took place Sunday night at a Detroit Auto Show preview event at Russell Industrial Center in Detroit. The most anticipated introduction, Chevy's all new 2014 Corvette Stingray did not disappoint!

Speeding right to the important details, the 7th Generation Corvette is the most powerful standard model...EVER. Featuring a LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine, the all new Vette puts out an estimated 450 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft or torque, compared to just 430 hp in the 2013 Corvette, and jets from 0-60 mph in less than four seconds! Fuel economy was not sacrificed for power, either. The 2014 Corvette Stingray delivers more power with less fuel and is expected to be the most fuel efficient Chevy Corvette, although the gas mileage numbers have not yet been certified.

Containing just two parts from the 2013 Vette, the 2014 Corvette Stingray has been completely redesigned inside and out. Structurally, the newest Corvette's frame is now made of aluminum in addition to the light weight carbon fiber roof and hood to reduce weight, instead of the traditional steel frame. The carbon fiber accents are carried over to the interior of the new C7 as well, complimenting the new stitched leather.

Featuring styling cues from the iconic 1960's Corvette, the evolutionary 2014 Corvette Stingray is an impressive new addition to the Corvette line-up.
