7 Weekend Travel Tips

7 Weekend Travel Tips
BAY CITY, Mich. - One of the biggest holiday travel weekends is rapidly approaching, which means millions across the country will be in their cars and traveling to their vacation destination. No matter where you're traveling to, the cost of food, accommodations and more can add up very quickly. That's why we've gathered 7 weekend travel tips to help you save a few bucks.

1.  To avoid wasting gas on the highway, travel on off-peak days or at odd hours! The busiest travel days this holiday are expected to be on Friday and Monday, around 5-7 p.m. By traveling at off-peak hours or on less busy days, your vehicle will be more fuel efficient because you will be avoiding all the stop and go - not to mention, you remove the risk of getting in an accident due to the high volume of drivers on the road.

2. Another way to avoid wasting gas is to consider renting a car locally. If your vehicle is a gas guzzler, it might be worth it to rent a car with better gas mileage. The money you save on gas might be more than the rental cost.

3. If you're traveling to the beach, stay a few miles away. Hotels right on the sand are going to be more expensive whereas you might be able to find a better deal down the road. That way you're still near the beach, but you're saving a few pennies.

4. Speaking of expensive hotels, avoid places right off the highway or interstate. That will be the first place that many travelers stop since it's so conveniently placed. If you travel down the road a few miles, you'll be able to find a better deal with more rooms available.

5. Eating out can be a delicious treat, but an expensive one. If you pack food to take with you - even if it's just chips, pretzels, or other snack foods - you'll save money. Not to mention, you'll be thankful you packed something for your kids to munch on.

6.  If you are staying in a tent or a cabin, it's even easier to avoid eating out. Pack hot dogs or hamburgers and roast them over a campfire with friends and family! This gives everyone the chance to come together and enjoy each other's company at a fraction of the cost of eating out.

7.  The biggest travel tip that we can offer to help you save money is to stay local. If you want a change of scenery but have to stay on a budget, we recommend checking out a local campsite or visiting a town nearby that you've never been to! This helps you save on gas, accommodations, and bonus: you could always run home if you forgot something!

We hope these 7 weekend travel tips will help you save a few dollars this holiday weekend. We can also help you save a few bucks on a New Chevrolet Car or New Chevrolet Truck at our Caro Area Chevrolet Dealer! Our friendly and courteous sales team is ready to help you save as much money as possible with Rebates and Employee Pricing. So stop by and see us today! GM Will Offer Smartphone Wireless Charging in 2014 Cars

GM Will Offer Smartphone Wireless Charging in 2014 Cars
BAY CITY, Mich. - With the amount of technology that drivers carry around with them, and the systems available in cars, it can seem like your car is packed with wires. That's why GM will now offer Smartphone wireless charging in 2014 cars. Designed with your comfort in mind, these wireless charging stations will help reduce the clutter inside your Chevy vehicle.

Instead of using the cables and plugs required to charge your Smartphone, some 2014 Chevy vehicles will now come with a Powermat surface - the 2014 Chevy Volt being one of them. This surface draws electricity, allowing you to place your Smartphone on the mat to charge it. GM will be the first carmaker to build the technology into its vehicles.

In order for the phone to work with the Powermat surface, it must be capable of recharging. This capability comes from either built-in technology, or the use of a case that will allow it to recharge. As Powermat surfaces become more popular, more phones will be released that are recharging compatible.

GM will offer Smartphone wireless charging in 2014 cars, but only a select few. If you'd like to discuss which vehicles come with this technology, or how you can have it installed in your current vehicle, stop by our Caro Area Chevrolet Dealer today! We have a large selection of New Chevrolet Cars and New Chevrolet Trucks - all with great technology that we know you'll love.

2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 First Pickup Ever to Receive Highest Possible Safety Rating

2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 First Pickup Ever to Receive Highest Possible Safety Rating
BAY CITY, Mich. - GM has just announced that the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 is the first pickup truck ever to receive the highest possible safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The highest possible safety rating is a five-star Overall Vehicle Score, and is highly sought after by car brands.

NHTSA tested the crew cab model of the Silverado - a vehicle that accounts for 60 percent of Chevy's 2014 light duty full-size pickup truck sales. Numerous safety features earned the 2014 Silverado the highest possible safety rating, such as:

  • Safety Alert Seat which alerts the driver to potential traffic danger
  • Lane Departure Warning which signals the driver when they drift into another lane without using their blinker
  • Forward Collision Alert which alerts the driver when the truck is approaching another vehicle too quickly
  • Six standard air bags and 360-degree sensor system
These are only a few of the great safety features offered, all of which has made the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 the first pickup ever to receive the highest possible safety rating! As for how the vehicle performs, it has an EcoTec3 5.3L V-8 engine that gets around 23 mpg on the highway and produces 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. 3-Cylinder Engine Ready for 2016 Chevy Volt

3-Cylinder Engine Ready for 2016 Chevy Volt
BAY CITY, Mich. - It has been discussed that the Chevy Volt will be undergoing major changes in the next year or two, resulting in a completely redesigned vehicle - both inside and out. Now it is rumored that a 3-cylinder engine is ready for the 2016 Chevy Volt.

Under the aerodynamic hood, a 3-cylinder engine is expected to replace the current 1.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine; this will give it a 31 horsepower increase, bumping it up to 115hp and 122 lb-ft of torque. The 3-cylinder will also extend the range of the electric car by 20 percent - this is made possible by making the car lighter. This 3-cylinder will be all-aluminum and turbocharged, and will also be the engine that powers the Opel Adam in 2014.

An upgraded engine won't be the only new thing that happens to the Volt, as it is expected to be completely redesigned. This redesign will be the first time the vehicle has undergone major changes since it's first release. GM has also announced that they hope to cut $10,000 from the Volt's current $39,145 price. They are already halfway there with this goal, as $5,000 has been dropped from the 2014 Chevy Volt.

While you'll have to wait for the 3-cylinder engine to be ready for the 2016 Chevy Volt, we do have the 2014 model ready for your inspection. Vehicle Electrification Options for Every Consumer

Vehicle Electrification Options for Every Consumer
BAY CITY, Mich. - GM has vehicle electrification options for every customer, allowing you to pick the option that will work best with your lifestyle and driving habits. There are three electric-based options: eAssist, Extended Range electric vehicles and electric vehicles - all of which have characteristics designed to appeal to different drivers.

The eAssist is available on the Chevy Malibu and 2014 Chevy Impala and is ideal for drivers that want a large sedan with compact fuel economy. A small compact car isn't for everyone, especially those that have families or prefer the extra space - that's why this electric vehicle is a great option if you fall into either of those categories. The eAssist gives the driver 25% fuel economy improvement over a traditional vehicle. This vehicle electrification option is also known as the 'light electrification solution' because it is only a small electric motor and a lithium ion battery attached to the engine - this allows the engine to turn off when the vehicle is idle which saves fuel.

Vehicle Electrification Options for Every Consumer The Extended Range electric vehicle (EREV) is powered by both electricity and gas. It does this by using electric for a certain number of miles, then when the battery runs low, it uses an electric generator powered by a gas engine. This option is available on cars such as the Chevy Volt and is perfect for those that prefer to use vehicle electrification on your daily commute, but also want the option to travel longer distances. The EREV gets an average of 900 miles to a tank, saving you about $6,850 over five years.

Pure electric vehicles is the third vehicle electrification option that GM offers. This is available on the Chevy Spark EV and is perfect for drivers that live in urban or suburban communities. It runs purely on electricity and can save the driver on average about $9,000 on gas over five years.

With vehicle electrification for every consumer, no matter their lifestyle or driving habits, every driver has the option to save big on gas. If you'd like to talk about which option is best for you, or even take one of these vehicles for a test drive, stop by our Caro Area Chevrolet Dealer today! Our knowledgeable sales staff would be more than happy to go over all the details with you, or even assist you with Special Financing.

CD Players Make Quiet Exit From Chevy Vehicles

CD Players Make Quiet Exit From Chevy Vehicles
BAY CITY, Mich. -  With new technology being added daily, CD players are making a quiet exit from Chevy Vehicles. Much like the cassette players of the 90s, the compact disk player will slowly be phased out of Chevy Vehicles and be replaced with better and more efficient technologies.

While CD players make a quiet exit from Chevy vehicles, USB ports and other entertainment systems are making their way in. The Chevy Spark is one example, as it no longer comes with a CD player slot on the dashboard. Instead, the small vehicle offers a range of options including USB ports and a MyLink infotainment system that gives drivers the option to stream live music from Pandora or similar music apps.

The reason that CD players will no longer be found in vehicles is simply because they have become outdated. Mountains of CDs are no longer present in most vehicles, as people have found ways to store thousands of songs on their phones, iPods, and more. Automakers are excited that CD players will be pulled from vehicles since it will give them so much more space on the dashboard. Without the CD player hole, designers will have more room to add screens, newer technology, and more.

If you prefer to use a CD player, rest assured that we have a variety of vehicles both with and without the compact disk player.  So stop by our Caro Area Chevrolet Dealer today and let us show you our great selection of New Chevrolet Cars and New Chevrolet Trucks. If you're interested in the Chevy Spark, we recommend taking a look at our 2013 Chevy Spark Brochure and then stopping in to take it for a test drive! We're sure it's a vehicle you're going to love!
