Happy Birthday to the Chevy Colorado!

BAY CITY, Mich. -- This November the Chevrolet Colorado turns 4! This segment redefining truck has taken the US market by storm reignited an interest in midsize utility vehicles, and made GM the most successful truck company for the last four years, selling 634, 505 more pickups than their closest competitor. 

In celebration of this truck legend's birthday, Chevy is expanding the Colorado family with two 2019 special editions, the off-road package Z71 Trail Runner and the street-savvy RST. The Z71 features your standard off-roading accessories and adds the ZR2's amazing underbody protection. Additional changes include a stamped aluminum front, mid skid plates, functional rocker protection, and Goodyear Duratrac tires. The RST ramps up the typical street features offered on the Tahoe, Suburban, and all-new Silverado, but with a slightly more sophisticated edge. It includes LT trim, a monochromatic exterior offset, a black beltline, body side moldings, a black tailgate bowtie, in addition to, Colorado and RST badges. It's also the first Colorado to offer 20-inch wheels, finished in a low-gloss black. 

Additionally, both releases feature the flow-through "CHEVROLET" lettered grille, first released on the Colorado ZR2 Bison, which can also be purchased as an accessory for $395 plus installation and tax. 

With these new additions, the Colorado lineup now offers new levels of off-road capability and street smart possibility. Sandor Piszar, director of marketing for Chevrolet trucks said the Colorado has and will continue to "change what customers expect from a midsize truck, inspire competitors, and bring new customers to Chevrolet". We wish someone would say such nice things about us on our birthday.

Chevy Colorado ZR2 Makes Competitive Debut

BAY CITY, Mich.,–– The "Vegas to Reno" race, the largest off-road race in the United States, broadcasted on August 19th. In the competition, over 350 participants compete in a 550 mile off-road race from Las Vegas to Reno. From mountain passes to desert wallows to dry lake beds, drivers put their vehicles to the test in a heated competition. The Chevy Colorado ZR2 made its competitive debut and received a 1st Place Best In Class award, finishing with 18 hours, 50 minutes, and 16 seconds on the clock.

Out of the 350 participants in the race, only 204 vehicles made it through the challenging track. The Colorado ZR2 that participated in the race was modified with an upgraded roll cage, racing body-mandated safety harness, a 44-gallon racing fuel tank, racing lights, a GPS system, and a two-way radio. The ZR2 was also equipped with upgraded Chevrolet performance features that will be announced at a later date.

“First and foremost, this was a development trip for our engineering team,” said Mark Dickens, executive director of Global Accessories, Performance Variants, Parts & Motorsports, General Motors, who was part of the chase and support team following the race from start to finish at all 14 pit stops.

“ZR2’s performance went beyond our most optimistic expectations, completing Vegas to Reno in its first outing. We learned a lot of things about the truck and could not be happier with the result, as well as the efforts of the Hall Racing team.

“The fact that the Colorado ZR2 was the only stock midsize truck to compete in Vegas to Reno reinforces our claim to be in a segment of one with this vehicle. Our success in this race is a testament to all that we’ve accomplished since the relaunch of our midsize truck program three years ago,” said Dickens. “We cannot wait to pass along the benefits of what we’ve learned here under extreme use and at future races to our customers.”

2017 Chevy Colorado Will Be Offered with a New V6 and 8-Speed Automatic Engine

A Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chevrolet Colorado is Being Tested

BAY CITY, Mich. – A hydrogen fuel cell Chevrolet Colorado is being tested by the U.S. Army’s Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC).

The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chevrolet Colorado is being tested by the military extensively for the next 12 months. Of course, we don’t know what tests will be done by the military because that’s confidential, but if the midsize pickup can make it through that, it can make it through anything.

Fuel cell propulsion has very low-end torque capability making it great for off-roading. It also provides exportable electric power and quiet operation, which are great features for a commercial and military use.

Fuel cell vehicles help address two major environment challenges that automobiles face today, which are petroleum use and carbon dioxide emissions. The only emission this Colorado will have is water vapor because the truck runs on renewable hydrogen from sources like wind and biomass.

In 2007 GM launched a 119-vehicle fleet of hydrogen fuel cell Chevrolet Equinoxes and called it “Project Driveway.” The fleet was driven more than 3 million miles by more than 5,000 consumers. GM expects the Chevrolet Colorado to have just as positive results.

GM and TARDEC have fuel cell development and research facilities about 20 minutes away from each other in Pontiac and Warren. The two will continue to collaborate as TARDEC puts the hydrogen fuel cell truck through the rigorous testing.

The Chevy Colorado Diesel is the Most Fuel Efficient Midsize Pickup

BAY CITY, Mich. – Good news for you truck lovers! It was confirmed this week that the 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel is the most fuel-efficient midsize pickup with an estimated 31 mpg on the highway.

Not only is the 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel leading in fuel efficiency, but it’s also the only midsize truck that you can get with a diesel option, giving its drivers a better experience with less gas fill-ups.

The 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel is the most fuel-efficient midsize pickup with great trailering perks as well. The 2WD models can tow up to 7,600 pounds, and the 4WD models tow up to 7,700 pounds with the available trailering package.

As a bonus, two new features on the 2016 Chevy Colorado help with driving control. Drivers will be more confident with the smart diesel exhaust braking and an integrated trailer brake controller.

Smart diesel braking assists with vehicle control and reduces brake wear and tear by decreasing the need for braking on downgrades. The integrated trailer brake works alongside the antilock brake system to give immediate measured brake force, which makes it unnecessary for an aftermarket trailer brake controller.

2015 Chevy Colorado Offers Segment-Leading Fuel Economy

According to recent EPA fuel economy estimates, the midsize Colorado offers an 3-5 mpg advantage over competing V6 pickup trucks with automatic transmissions. Expected to offer 26 mpg on the highway/18 mpg in the city with a combined fuel economy estimate of 21 mpg, the 2015 Chevy Colorado will offer segment-leading fuel economy with its 2WD model equipped with a 3.6L gasoline V6 engine. Impressive fuel economy is available in the 4x4 model as well – 24 mpg on the highway/17 mpg in the city/20 mpg combined.

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Will Offer Manual Transmission

BAY CITY, Mich.- The much-anticipated debut of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado took place last week at the LA Auto Show. While the addition of a midsize truck to Chevy’s line up was exciting enough, more details regarding the truck have been released! It has been confirmed that the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado will offer a manual transmission!

Though GM North American President, Mark Reuss, confirmed that the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado will offer a manual transmission, not all of the models will receive it. The midsize truck is expected to launch later in 2014 and only the base, rear-wheel-drive WT model will offer the manual transmission.

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Debut Coming Soon

BAY CITY, Mich.- We've seen the 2015 Chevy Colorado spy shots and soon we may be able to see the official truck. Auto Show season is right around the corner and it's suspected that the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado debut is coming soon!

Official 2015 Chevrolet Colorado debut details have not been released, but it has been rumored that GM's new midsize pickup may make its debut at one of the upcoming auto shows in Detroit, Chicago, or Los Angeles! This is good news for truck owners everywhere since the new Chevy Colorado will offer truck buyers a choice between small (midsize), medium (half-tons), and large (heavy-duties).

What remains unknown is how different each truck is in price and whether the three-truck strategy will be a success. While many people are interested in a smaller pickup truck that offers similar benefits to a larger pickup, it seems that price will be an important factor to the Colorado's success.
