Deer Season Driving Tips

BAY CITY, Mich., –– During this time of year we see a substantial increase in deer related car accidents as hunting season gets underway and deer breeding season peaks in November. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, rural areas and roads with a speed limit of 55 MPH or higher are most likely to be the scene for deadly deer crashes. It's important to stay aware no matter what road you are on, and with a few simple deer season driving tips you can avoid becoming another deer-crash statistic.

1. Deer are generally most active during dusk and dawn hours, so be alert during your morning and evening commutes to and from work and home.

2. Deer usually travel in groups, so where there is one, there will likely be more. If you see a deer make sure to slow down, and keep an eye out for more since they will most likely be nearby. If one deer crosses the road in front of you, watch for others who may be following behind it.

3. Staying alert, contstantly scnning the road, and utilizing your high beams when there is no oncoming traffic can help you spot a deer that may be lurking near the side of the road. If you see any illuminated eyes or dark shadows, slow down and be prepared to stop.   Be especially cautious when passing hedges, treelines or foliage.

4. One of the worst, and most dangerous, things you can do to avoid hitting a deer is swerve. It may be your natural reflex but chances are, you will end up hitting another vehicle, tree, or other object which can be a more serious collision than hitting the deer. The best thing you can do is to brake firmly, stay in your lane, and hold the steering wheel steady until you come to a controlled stop.

5. If you do get into an accident with a deer, make sure to turn on your emergency flashers and pull over to the side of the road so that other vehicles can see you. Stay in your vehicle, and never approach the deer.

6. Last but not least, remember that in your Chevrolet vehicle, you can press the OnStar button for assistance in any type of situation.

We want all of our friends and neighbors to stay safe this season as deer activity nears its peak with our deer season driving tips. If you want the peace of mind knowing your vehicle will protect you through any season, come see us to learn more about all of the extensive safety systems that General Motors has to offer. If you have unfortunately hit a deer, and need collision service, we can help fix the damage and get you back on the road in no time. You can ensure your car runs safe by taking care of routine maintenance. We would be happy to take care of all your auto service needs.

5th Annual PJ's for Preemies Clothing Drive

BAY CITY, Mich.- The PJ's for Preemies Drive is back and Hank Graff Bay City could not be more excited to be involved with this program again this year! The 5th Annual PJ's for Preemies Clothing Drive is going on now and we need your help!

Bringing a child into this world is an exciting time, but unfortunately some babies are born prematurely and must spend extra time at the hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICO). Not only can this be a stressful time for those families, but often these parents are left unprepared without appropriate clothing for their child while at the NCIU. Since most 0-3 month clothing sizes are designed to fit babies that weigh 7-9 pounds, this clothing is way too big for a baby that only weighs 3-5 pounds!

This is why we are asking for your help! We are working to collect preemie and newborn clothing for the NCIU at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw so that we can provide parents with clothing for their baby that fits properly, and try to help "normalize" the parenting experience during that time. The new or like-new preemie and newborn clothing must snap or button on the front only, in order to accommodate wires and tubes (no zippers). This year, pajamas and sleep sacks are also needed, and since more sleep sacks have zippers, that will be acceptable.

To donate to the 5th Annual PJ's for Preemies Clothing Drive, just stop by Graff Bay City! We're also excited to announce that we will match whatever donations we receive! Stop by today, Hank Graff Chevy is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706. For more information on Hank Graff Chevrolet, or for any questions call us at (989) 684-4411 or visit our websites: www.GraffBayCity.com.

Pumpkin Carving Ideas

BAY CITY, Mich.- Halloween is just around the corner, which means it's almost time for Truck and Treat at Graff Bay City! But it also means that it's time to carve your pumpkin and put it on display for the neighborhood to see! If you're unsure about how spooky you want your design to be this year, take a look at our Pumpkin Carving Ideas below or check out our Fall Frenzy Pinterest Board for more ideas!

Whether you're a professional pumpkin carver that can whip up an impressive design, or if you like to stick with the basic jack-o-lantern look, there are plenty of creative pumpkin carving ideas this year! The great thing is that with the internet, you can usually print out a stencil of your design to make carving a little easier.

If you want to do something a little different this year, try using multiple pumpkins to create a festive scene or to write a saying like in the photos below. You can also use a drill to carve little holes all over your pumpkin for a lantern effect!

Or, if you want to take the more creative route, no need to carve at all. Get out your craft supplies and let your imagination run wild! Utilize buttons, sequins, thumb tacks, puffy paint, etc. to design a truly unique pumpkin.

But don't miss out on the most original of them all! We will have airbrush pumpkins at our Truck and Treat event on Halloween! Stop by for tons of fun and we can also help you find the perfect perfect vehicle to tote all that candy home at our Bridgeport Area Chevrolet Dealership and Used Car Dealership! Hank Graff Chevy is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706. Bay City Police Get New Chevrolet Caprices

Photo from The Bay City Times.

BAY CITY, Mich.- There's a few new cops in town, well cop cars. Recently, the Bay City Police Force received four new Chevrolet Caprice police vehicles to replace some of the aging Impalas. The Chevrolet Caprice is not available to the public so you may not recognize it at first, but be on the look out. You may have already noticed the new patrol cars out on the road, since some officers have been patrolling in the new Chevrolet Caprices for the last few months.

Manufactured in Australia, the Chevrolet Caprice was created specifically with law enforcement in mind. Priced at $26,000 the Chevrolet Caprice offers some police-specific perks like a high-input alternator, auxiliary cooling for both the engine and transmission, 18-inch steel wheels, beefier brake pads, police-calibrated stability control, a large touchscreen interface for primary vehicle controls integrated into the side console, a longer wheelbase, and two battery mounts.

Some of the Bay City Officers have also noticed the larger trunks, which better store traffic cones, extra armor, defibrillator, first aid kit, and finger print kit. Designed specifically to accomodate utility belts, the officers have also enjoyed the roomier front seat in the Chevrolet Caprice. Not to mention the rear-wheel drive, 6-Liter, V8 engine which provides the police force with 355 horsepower balanced by great traction control.

The task force does not yet know if they will add more Chevrolet Caprice Police Vehicles to the line up, but you can come on in to your Bay City Area Chevrolet Dealer to get your own intimidating Chevy! We also have Used Cars For Sale Near Saginaw, MI depending on your needs. Graff Bay City is located at 3636 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706. Tips For Extending Your Vehicle Life

BAY CITY Mich., - Are you interested in saving yourself time, money and trouble by learning how to extend the life of your vehicle?  If so then keep reading, because we have some tips that will do all of the above and make you a very happy car owner.

When you bring your vehicle into Graff Chevrolet Bay City we can certainly inspect your car for damage and make repairs, however, we want you to know how you could improve your vehicle’s life all on your own!

Don’t Settle For Cheap Insurance

You may be saving some money now when you pay for cheap insurance but you certainly won’t be doing yourself any favors in the long run.  Always look for an insurer that will guarantee the work that they authorize and will pay for OEM parts.

Break Your Vehicle In

If you push your car too far in the beginning then you can cause some serious damage to it.  Just take it easy and give it some time to be broken-in, you’ll be glad you did!

Run Your Air Conditioning in Winter

We know that this isn’t something that you typically want to do especially when you’re stuck in the middle of a Michigan winter but it can really help your vehicle.  The cold air keeps seals in good shape and prevents the compressor’s moving parts from seizing up.

Fix Your Weather-Stripping

When you see rainwater or snow seeping into your car then it’s time to take a look at your weather-stripping.  Many times it’s an easy fix and you can use adhesives or foam rods.  If the problem is really bad then you can order new weather-stripping that fits your vehicle exactly.  Refrain from purchasing any generic products, they won’t last and will end up costing you more money than you need to spend.

Tape Your Cracked Tail light

You may not be alarmed that your tail lights or headlights have cracks in them but it can actually turn into a serious issue if you let it go.  Water can get inside of your lights and you’ll be wasting a lot of money to have the problem righted.  Well here’s a quick and easy fix that will keep your money in your pocket: use tape!  There is specially designed tape for this exact use that comes in red or clear that can set your mind at rest.

Rotate Your Tires

When you rotate your tires you not only are spreading the wear evenly but you’re also ensuring that you get the most out of your tires before you have to replace them.  Ideally this should be done every 6,000 to 7,500 miles.

What You Should NEVER Say To A Police Officer

Bay City, MICH. – It can be difficult to keep your temper under control when you’re pulled over by a cop and are running late for your flight or important business meeting, but it’s important that you don’t lose your head.  Police officers are humans too and like you they have a job to do, so we found out what you should NEVER say to a police officer.

#5. Any kind of argument whatsoever: It’s true that you may be pulled over at some point for something that you don’t feel was fair, but it is always best to keep calm and not antagonize the police officer.  Arguing will get you nowhere…unless you want to be stuck with an even bigger ticket…then you’ll definitely be getting somewhere, probably not where you wanted to be though.

#4. “I was in a hurry.”: The bottom line is that the police officer doesn’t really care whether or not you’re in a hurry.  The law is the law and being in a hurry isn't an excuse.  It’s better just to keep calm and follow the officer's instructions.

#3. “I pay your salary.”: Telling a police officer that you pay their salary is probably one of the worst ways to get out of a ticket anyone has ever thought of.  It’s true that they are public officials whose salaries depend on tax dollars but this doesn’t give you the right to act as though you somehow own them.  The officer will end up insulted which probably won't help your case.

#2. “The car in front of me was going just as fast, why didn’t you pull them over?”: The answer to your whiny-sounding question will not be “oh you’re right it’s not fair that they got away with breaking the law and you didn’t, I won’t give you a ticket now”.  Police officers aren’t capable of catching every person who speeds (especially if there are several cars speeding at once).  Resist the urge to complain and you’ll keep more money in your pocket.

#1. “I don’t know, how fast was I going?”: Playing dumb will only make your situation worse.  Telling a cop that you don’t know how fast you were going, says that you are not an attentive driver and that you therefore need an even more severe reminder about paying attention and following the law while driving.  They already know how fast you were going, lying won’t get you out of a ticket.

Remember that a little kindness goes a long way.  Your best option is to treat the officer politely and professionally.  Another thing to keep in mind is that just because you may have had one bad experience with a cop, it doesn’t mean that they are all bad.  So next time you get pulled over, think of these tips on what you should NEVER say to a police officer!
