BAY CITY, Mich. - While the world eagerly counts down the days until the unveiling of the 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 at the Detroit Auto Show in January, it's younger sibling is quietly prowling the streets of Michigan. The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z07 has been spotted out and about, shielded behind thick, baggy plastic.
Not much is known about the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette just yet, but from these exciting (albeit modest) shots, a few aspects can be speculated on. For example, a sizable vent is visible ahead of each rear wheel opening - this would be for brake cooling. The exhaust outlets also appear to be larger than the Stingray.
As for the powertrain, it's likely that it will come with the Tremec seven-speed manual transmission. It will also most likely be powered by a turbocharged V8 engine. This would mean it will be more fuel efficient while still being able to put out more than 600 horsepower.
The spotted 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z07 will unfortunately remain a mystery for awhile longer. However, the 2015 Z06 will make an appearance at the Auto Show this January, and the 2014 Chevy Stingray has arrived.
