General Motors 200 Mile Electric Car Confirmed

General Motors 200 Mile Electric Car Confrimed
BAY CITY, Mich.- Recently General Motors' CEO, Dan Akerson, hinted at developments in the automakers battery technology and the push to develop different ranges. While at an energy conference this week, the CEO confirmed General Motors is in fact working on an electric car with a 200 mile range!

While GM's CEO didn't offer and details regarding the vehicles or batteries in question, the suggested breakthroughs have been on a development project to produce two different vehicles, one with a 100 mile range and the other with a 200 mile range. These efforts are combined with General Motors' goal to have a total of 500,000 electrified vehicles on the road by 2017.

While we don't know much about the Confirmed GM 200 Mile Electric Car, back in 2011 we found out that General Motors' venture capital arm had invested $17 million in Envia Systems, which is developing a lithium-ion battery that would offer 400 watt-hours per kilogram, much higher than the 140 watt-hours per kilogram offered by today's highest-volume electric car.
