3-Cylinder Engine Ready for 2016 Chevy Volt

3-Cylinder Engine Ready for 2016 Chevy Volt
BAY CITY, Mich. - It has been discussed that the Chevy Volt will be undergoing major changes in the next year or two, resulting in a completely redesigned vehicle - both inside and out. Now it is rumored that a 3-cylinder engine is ready for the 2016 Chevy Volt.

Under the aerodynamic hood, a 3-cylinder engine is expected to replace the current 1.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine; this will give it a 31 horsepower increase, bumping it up to 115hp and 122 lb-ft of torque. The 3-cylinder will also extend the range of the electric car by 20 percent - this is made possible by making the car lighter. This 3-cylinder will be all-aluminum and turbocharged, and will also be the engine that powers the Opel Adam in 2014.

An upgraded engine won't be the only new thing that happens to the Volt, as it is expected to be completely redesigned. This redesign will be the first time the vehicle has undergone major changes since it's first release. GM has also announced that they hope to cut $10,000 from the Volt's current $39,145 price. They are already halfway there with this goal, as $5,000 has been dropped from the 2014 Chevy Volt.
